Kinda Off Topic: Ideas for a New Deadpool Videogame!
With the insane success of the Deadpool movie and Deadpool's popularity at an all time high, I believe the time has come for a new Deadpool video game! I really liked the first one and I think a new game should build on top of what the first one gave us. While I don't think this new game should be a direct sequel to the first one, I think a lot of the ideas used in the first game should carry over to the new one. But I'd still like the new one to feel unique to the original. Here are the basic ideas I've been brainstorming for this new game (Not like it really matters. Wishing for *beep* isn't gonna make it happen. It's just fun to fantasize):
- The Look: Use the look of the new film for this game. I wouldn't want it to be a video game version of the film itself (we all know how most of those work out) just use its look. Things like Deadpool's suit, realistic environments and characters, the film's versions of the comic book characters, get Ryan Reynolds to voice Deadpool, etc.
- Free Roam: I think this game should have an open world map similar to what we see in games like the GTA series. In the case of a Deadpool game, completely recreate San Francisco (since that's where he lives in the comics if I remember correctly. I can't recall it being specified where he lives in the movie) or Chicago (since that's where the Hellhouse is located) This city would serve as a hubworld more than anything. A place for the player to run around and do anything they want with Deadpool inbetween missions. Speaking of which...
- The Story and Missions: No idea what the main story of the game would be. It's Deadpool. Let the writers go wild on any number of ideas. What I do know is that there should be Merc Contracts. Deadpool is the Merc with the Mouth afterall so I think it would only be fitting to let the player take on assassination missions throughout the game at any time of their own choosing and go gank a *beep* and get paid handsomely for it. Imagine something similar to the first mission of the original Deadpool game where you're going after Chance White. Merc Contracts wouldn't be carried out just in the hubworld (if at all) These missions would take you anywhere in the world to the predetermined location. Someone wants a corrupt corporate *beep* in Hong Kong dead? To China! Somebody doesn't like some famous movie star and wants them gone? To Hollywood! Missions would be available all over the hubworld (a good portion would be found in the Hellhouse. No explanation necessary) Some missions wouldn't be Merc Contracts. Some missions would be heroic missions giving Deadpool the chance to be a hero. It could be anything from saving people from a burning building to rescuing a kitten from a tree (which, knowing Deadpool and according to how the player chooses to carry out the mission, could go horribly wrong)
- The Combat: I thoroughly enjoyed the combat style of the first game and it could easily work for this new one. However, I could easily see a tighter combat system working for this game. Something similar to what we saw in the Batman Arkham games. This would work well with Deadpool's katanas or, if the player chose, just let Deadpool fight with his fists (in a brutal yet funny style) Deadpool would have access to just about any weapon the player could want; all of which would be bought with the money acquired from completing Merc Contracts. Keep all the weapons from the original game plus however many more you can think of. Let the player unleash Deadpool's own special brand of chaos however they wish. I also liked that the first game let you switch from 3rd person sword combat to 2nd(?) person gun combat. That should carry over to this game. Deapool's combat style should be showcased throughout the game and funny-yet-brutal finishers would be a must. Imagine slaughtering 20+ goons with Deadpool's katanas and then kababing the last guy like you see in the movie.
- Leveling Up: Experience gained throughout the game could be used to upgrade Deadpool's abilities (accelerating his healing factor even more, enhancing his speed in combat, teleporting farther and faster during combat, making him stronger and even more awesome in general) And like in the last game, you should be able to upgrade his weapons and make them even more lethal. Damage dealt to enemies should extremely graphic and detailed. Watching them get blown up or de-limbed with blood spurting everywhere would be immensely satisfying for the player.
- Health: It goes without saying, Deadpool's health would recover over time after taking damage (upgrading his healing factor would allow you to heal even faster) and I think this game should be GRAPHICALLY detailed on where and how Deadpool has been damaged. Bullet holes, a missing arm or leg, broken bones, etc. all of which would be fun to watch heal over time. Imagine losing an arm and watching it grow back at a hyper-accelerated rate because you've maxed out Deadpool's healing factor. If you need a quick-heal, *beep* potions, you get CHIMICHANGAS!
- Humor: Being a Deadpool game, Deadpool's own brand of humor would basically run the game. But Deadpool himself shouldn't just be funny, so should side characters and NPCs. Characters like Weasel and Blind Al are always good for a laugh, but random citizens on the street should be funny too. For those of you that played the Destroy All Humans! games, it would be like reading the minds of all the random civilians. Imagine walking down the street and passing some random hotdog vendor and hearing him say something like "I hope no one ever finds out what these things are REALLY made of!"
This is all I can think of for now. If anyone would like to comment, critique, or add any of their own ideas, please do.
