A Bit Overrated To Be Honest (Backed by Reasons)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining just to complain here but these are some legit dislikes I have with this movie.

While I love the concept of Deadpool this movie just kind of wasn't for me. I'm not saying I hate Deadpool as I thoroughly loved his 2014 game but I don't exactly think this movie deserves all of its praise.

I don't outright hate the movie, there are things I loved such as the performances of everyone. Ryan Reynolds knocks it out of the park as Deadpool and T.J. Miller as Weasel is great to watch. There's also a lot of unique sequences and I love how the movie takes shots at modern superhero films.

However I have 2 major problems with this movie. The first being its status as a comedy. The movie just didn't really make me laugh, maybe three times. I think this is because many of the references and jokes in this movie are either really, really, really obscure or outdated by this point.

My second big problem is that nothing really happens in this film. I saw a bunch of posts on Facebook around the time this movie came out that said 'The reason there's no spoilers is because little kids aren't allowed to see the movie.' And I think the reason there weren't any spoilers about the movie is because nothing really groundbreaking or interesting happens! There's barely any action in this film, just 2 rather small sequences: highway and junkyard battle at the end. Both sequences which were replayed over and over again in the trailers.

Sure you can argue that the movie being so small makes it more unique and special, fine. But you've got to admit that nothing happens at all. The movie progresses rather slowly when the entire plot could've been resolved in 25 minutes. Seriously, this movie is 75% flashback and 25% modern day.

Anyways those are my thoughts on Deadpool. Any responses? Let's have an organized discussion.

You say you're not here to complain but you did. Hypocrite is what that is called. People that say one thing and mean what they aren't saying or exactly what we would think your saying and you deny it. If you can't handle it then you should be banned from seeing these kind of movies. I can't stand people that take a good movie and rip it up like it is the worst thing ever, and then say that is not what they are doing.

You just did that saying you didn't. So much of this, and it has been all over the internet that this is a crude, rude, comedy, with some nudity and a lot of action. I am not much into comic movies but really enjoyed this one a lot. Sad, that people are so picky about movies like you, OP. There are so many comedy movies I just can't stand because it is stupid humor but this is silly humor and is really funny.

I think this is Ryan's best work. I think you fell asleep through the movie to say nothing happened. It was paced perfect. Nothing boring about it. Now, talking about boring. Watch "The Conjuring," "The Innkeepers," and movies like that. Quite a few horror movies recently like drag through the first 3/4 of the movie with nothing and then finally failed ending. A lot of horror movies like this.

They say it is the build up for the suspense, but it is nothing building up but just a waste of time to end the film badly. This film is no horror but sure was fun to watch and I rather this movie be the way it is, than some boring PG-13 made for teens or family only kind of movie like a lot of hero movies. This is one of the best hero movies in my book. I bet you are one that likes to put opposite of what good movie is and rate it bad, which keeps the awesome movies rated low and crappy ones rated higher.

Rated R Horror movies are better, no matter the argument.

Not as overrated as something like Godfather. Plot: Crime family garbage. Boring. Slow. Pretty dumb overall.

I found it pretty overrated. To the point where I just gave it thumbs up. I have two reasons backing up my claim: Ryan Reynolds' trademark has gotten very stale and there were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many jokes. "Can we please have fifteen seconds where there isn't a dumb reference or stupid pun?"

It's no steve martins the jerk but it was a damn good flick.

It kind of irritates me a bit that people expect every movie to appeal to every audience. I understand that the studios want that so much, that they do try to put everything into every movie, which ruins it for most, because you wind up with all kinds of story holes (because each story line doesn't get the amount of info, not enough time and all that). Then with a plot that depends upon already existing characters that the audience is magically supposed to know their entire history, and you lose much of your audience during the playing of the show. I was an avid comic book reader way back when. So I know what it's like to know SOME of the heroes we're seeing on the big screen now. So I 'get' Superman and Batman most of the time. Deadpool? Never heard of him. So serve up a movie, and leave me guessing about a lot of stuff, I'm not going to come back to watch another movie about him. Not every member of the audience is going to run out and try to learn everything about the character like maybe a pre teen fanboy would. Even adults didn't do that with say, Spiderman.
Poor story line. Limited joke potential if you weren't already a fan. Mediocre movie. A 'one chair' movie (I now partially judge movies in how long I can sit and watch it without being distracted by something else; five chairs means I watched the whole thing straight through. one means I kept getting up to do something else instead of watch the movie).

I only got through about 30 minutes the first time and didnt find it remotely funny. Then gave it another go last night and had a real romp with it. Maybe you were in the wrong mood. I'm certainly happy I gave it another go after friends on another board told me to try it again. I found Reynolds very funny.

It's hugely overrated. Not funny enough, not anarchic enough, not crass enough and not exciting enough.
