It's not an Oscar Worthy film

I really enjoyed Deadpool, but it getting an Oscar is like if the 21 Jump Street movies got an Oscar- which I also enjoy the same way.
Both films are self-aware about what they are, the main characters are really funny and the writing around them, but anything really Oscar-ish.
The acting was good in the movie but any that's best performance of the year I wouldn't say. And the technical aspects of the film are really cheap.

It was on the best makeup shortlist but shouldn't get nominated for much else

It's not like all the movies that are worthy of above-the-line Oscars need to be existential studies of the human condition or some biopics about inspirational figures, in the 90's, movies like City Slickers or My Cousin Vinny, not to mention many Woody Allen's comedies could get Oscars, so why not Deadpool?

Darth Vader is scary and I  The Godfather

Well why haven't other good superhero films like the Winter Soldier and X-Men First Class haven't been nominated in the pass but people say Deadpool should?
And Edgar Wright's comedy movies that have really clever twists to their premise despite never getting nominated for best screenplay in the past?

Because Deadpool has an edge over these movies in the sense that it is totally conscious about the reputation of its genre and turns it into fun with a mix of wit and self-derision that is far above the level of most superhero movies. Even people who are not fans of superhero movies loved Deadpool because it doesn't take itself seriously why still remaining consistent enough to "tell a story".

By the way, I'm surprised by this question, even the detractors of Deadpool know it is not just "another" superhero movie.

No one says Deadpool is a sure lock for the screenplay category (it didn't hit many precursors) so I don't know if the comparaison is valid. But I'm a big fan of Woody Allen and sometimes, I found deep connections between Deadpool and the zany period of Allen (70's), so I wouldn't be shocked if the screenplay was nominated, but I doubt it will happen.

I'm not sure if I would say that this deserves any big Oscar nods, but it's still pretty amazing that a CBM is even being considered for the big awards.

Depends on what it gets it for. I agree with your other comment that some films get overlooked based on the genre which is unfair and this film sort of went so far that it actually avoids getting labeled as "just an action flick" etc.

But really, they did exactly what they set out to do. They weren't looking to make Sophie's Choice. If an archer aims for exactly 3 inches to the left of the bull's eye and hits it - shouldn't we be impressed?
