Why so much hate?
Interesting setup, well-motivated action, smartly handled characters, and a satisfying plot. What more do you need? It's not a masterpeice, but it's a fun time.

shareNot hate, just MASSIVE disappointment. The following is what I wrote in a separate thread:
I've been a Wolverine fan for 30 years. I've read the limited series that this movie is "based" on several times. I am very familiar with all the characters including Viper, Silver Samurai, Wolverine (of course), Mariko, Lord Shingen, and Yukio. Almost all of these characters were changed in the film version for the worse. Yukio in the comics, and Aronofsky's screenplay, was a seasoned assassin with short cropped black hair, not a fake red head little mall rat who could swing a sword from time to time--and she is certainly NOT A MUTANT who can foresee someone's death. Viper has green hair not blonde hair, and she certainly is not a venom spitting mutant. Grandpa Yashida was just added to the film, and had no business in it. Silver Samurai got the worst treatment. He isn't an old man in a mechanized suit. Silver Samurai is a bada$$ mutant who can focus his mutant energy through his sword and cut through almost anything EXCEPT Admantium.share
Which brings me to the whole Admantium cutting through Admantium thing that happens on screen. That was bull crap. Admantium cannot cut through Admantium. If anything, the superheated sword that the giant Silver Samurai robot was using would've been weaker than Wolverine's claws because when metal is heated it becomes more malleable.
The scene with the bear made me cringe too. In the comic, Logan has to fight the bear in order to put it out of its misery. And what's the deal with the Girzzle Adam's look for Wolverine? That is silly. Mangold screwed up what could've been a very good movie. That's my honest opinion.
A great post which highlights almost everything wrong with a film that should've been epic but was instead, mediocre.
I would only add that this film completely wasted it's location. Japan is a unique experience - if you've been there you'd know what I mean - but this film failed to capture that and do any of it justice, which is quite an achievement considering all the events occurred there.
Instead we were served up a series of clichéd fights with the usual expendable gangsters, followed by a single encounter with a village of ninjas (which was the best part of the film for me!) before a boringly predictable anti-climatic showdown with a dishonourable samurai.
There is more to Japan than WW2, Yakuza, Ninja and Samurai...
Yes, it would be much bether if they mad it a bit mor like it the comics....
I never read them, but I notised that much was out of place here
I have no idea why, this was better than x3 and origins. The other poster is just disappointed that these characters and events changed. This is expected with hollywood superheroes, i mean is it that suprising they changed origins and adapted stories differently for the silver screen. They have always been changing stuff. People just need to stop nitpicking.
shareSorry but I wasn't nitpicking. Nitpicking is when a person complains about small details. Concerning this movie, some of the changes from comic to film were MAJOR, and they weren't for the better.
shareI'm sorry, but yes, your disappointment seems heavily based on nitpicking. In your post, you mentioned such details as Yukio's character design, the specific circumstances of the Silver Samurai fight, and the lack of Wolverine fighting the bear. I see all of these details as rather unessential to the plot and minor, considering the story seems to be functionally intact.
The one thing I agree with is the old man being inside Silver Samurai. That was kind of dumb. But it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the movie.
If you could explain how the details you mentioned are so crucially important to the plot, I would love to try and see your point of view.

If you want the original mini-series so bad, go read that. Go immerse yourself in Claremont's unnecessary overwriting, over explaining and obsession with beating us to death with exposition. I loved his stuff as a kid but now it's damn near unreadable.
shareClaremont is guilty of overwriting, and I've read that he even admits that, but most of this happened in the X-Men series. The 1982 Wolverine limited series was some of his best work in my opinion.
When I read the screenplay for this film it was actually good. But the original director was replaced and Mangold took over. When this happened the screenplay underwent major changes for the worse. Didn't you want to see the REAL mutant Silver Samurai on screen and not some old made up character in a mechanized suit? I did.
Sorry but I wasn't nitpicking.Yeah, you were nit picking whining about some changes made from an old comic. It was adapted to film. Changes will occur. Move on.🐭 share
Apperently some people actually thought Wolverine Origins was better.

Do you want the short answer OP?
Yukio's haircut.
I really liked the movie myself. It was a lot better than Origins.
If it's all the same to you, I'll have that drink now.-Loki (Marvel's Avengers)
Jesus these are the nit pickiest complaints
The snake woman has green hair not blonde!
Give me a break, many many super hero movies have taken liberties with the source material. It happens with novels too, I thought it was a pretty damn good wolverine movie and a huge step up from that awful origins one.
Looking forward to the 3rd
Viper's hair not being green was the least of this film's problems. Old man in a mechanized suit pretending to be the Silver Samurai was probably the worst offense. Oh you saved my life in WWII now I want to steal your healing factor. How predictable and stupid.
Second would have to be seeing Wolverine's Adamantium claws being chopped off by a weaker super heated Adamantium sword. Lame.
