need advice

I rented both X-men(2000) and The Wolverine(2013) as I have never seen any x-men movies before. I do like comic book type movies. The Thors, Captain Americas, Ant-Man, Guardians of the galaxy, Avengers, Iron Mans, etc. After watching the first x-men movie I couldn't really get into it and got kinda bored except that Hugh Jackman's character Wolverine did interest me. I then watched The Wolverine and it started out really good and got me invested. However, I started to get really bored and almost fell asleep a few times later on as it became less about Logan and The Wolverine and felt like it focused more on Samurai's and Japanese culture. I couldn't finish the movie. So for some advice ... should I give The Wolverine another try again? Should I give any of the other x-men movies a try even though I didn't care for the first x-men?

I can't tell if you'll end up liking "The Wolverine" or not. I can tell you that I, personally, liked it a lot on the basis that it was less of a traditional superhero movie and more of a deeper introspective character piece. However, there are certainly plenty of people who this type of movie doesn't appeal to and thus, like you, they found it boring.

Nevertheless, it's possible that you'll be more engaged if you understand more of his backstory. A lot of the piece is dependent on you understanding his anguish and for that you kind of need to see the four preceding films to fully get it.

The thing is that of those four, two of them (specifically "X-men: The Last Stand" and "X-men Origins: Wolverine") are considered the low points of the franchise by many. It's not that they're boring, but that they're popcorn flicks that focus more on action than on solid storytelling and whatnot. Some people like them for that reason though, so I have no way of knowing how you will respond to them.

That said, I would recommend that you try "X2" and go from there. It's the sequel to "X-men," it focuses heavily on Wolverine's backstory so if you're interested in his character you'll likely be interested in that movie, and it's considered one of the better films in the franchise. If you don't like that then maybe it's not for you and you'll decide that you want to stop there. If, however, you do like it then you might want to consider sitting through the rest because the latest films are much better received than the two I mentioned above.

Ok, well first off, don't watch any movie when you are tired and ready to nod off. Try watching them during the day if you can't stay away at night.

Then, watch them all as they all tie together one way or another. Although, I'd say to go from X-3 to The Wolverine and then watch Origins. Origins can stand on its own.

Then watch First Class and Days of Future Past.
