Tao Okamoto ( Mariko) and Rila Fukushima ( Yukio) were both famous fashion models ( check out their images posing for VOGUE) before they were cast in THE WOLVERINE. They are both very elegant.

It is quite extraordinary that they showed very acceptable acting chops when they were cast to portray their very different characters. I have wondered if their fashion modelling experience ( especially for fashion photography) was useful in the move to an acting job because they were trained to show different expressions and body language to portray a specific emotion?
I wondered if that's where they came from because neither have much prior listings. I have to say that generally Model does not automatically translate in to Actress. I can think of several examples where a famous model seems awkward on screen. But these two did well. Maybe it's the type of film, or the foreign language or maybe they both have an actor school background? Whatever they were both good. Bit to answer the OP,IMHO, Mariko is the most beautiful but Yuriko the most interesting - draw?
