Agree; it is not Oscar winning material.
But one can't deny that it is genre violence at its best. Women get punched in the face, in the body, dragged on the ground, smashed against trees, shot, burned to death by well intentioned hunters. In the film, adult men are stupid and bigoted, and evil women can take advantage of them, but then the witch hunters appear and those women receive the best treatment bigoted sexism can provide.
I want a sequel, I want to know how far Hollywood is willing to go to reverse the feminist revolution. Women are like men, and therefore it is only natural that they they can take a punch any day of the week and twice on Sundays if that is their kinky inclination. We can't expect anything less from 21st century entertainment.
I was told there will be a sequel. Fantastic! I hope the writers start reading The Witch's Hammer for inspiration, otherwise it will be just repetitive.
