One of the best films of the year

This was wonderful. Gabriel LaBelle is very good and I'm rooting for him to get an Oscar nomination. Michelle Williams was excellent and I loved Paul Dano's performance too. The parts of the story with Sammy making films worked the best for me. The family and school drama wasn't as strong, but overall the film is well written and this is Spielberg's best film in over a decade. Currently, my 3rd favourite film of 2022 and my prediction to win best picture. My rating is a 9/10.

I thought the movie was medium at best.

There was no story, really. It just strikes me as weird how a director thinks his life is so important and inspiring that he should make a biopic on himself.

The family drama was nonsense.
The school drama was very cliche and uninteresting.
The characters had very weird reactions, constantly - like the over the top melodrama jock watching himself in the beach movie; or the sister crying and saying inspiring things to Sammy after the divorce conversation. Or any scene with Sammy's mother, really.

The best scenes were with uncle Boris and with John Ford.

I rate it a 6/10.
