So we never did get an explanation as to how Kurt knew Dexter killed Matt

I remember a few episodes back people saying "I'm sure they'll explain it, Kurt probably has him on camera, just wait they'll explain it" now its over and we got no explanation as to how Kurt just knew 100% Dexter killed his son.

Cause he found Matt's screws from his leg in the incinerator? ok someone burnt him, but how did you come to the conclusion it was Dexter? He had no solid proof Dexter did it, and that was bullshit and lazy writing.

All we got was him saying he got home and saw it was ash on his jacket after Dexter dropped him off, and he went back and found the screws, and still nowhere in there is an explanation for him knowing it was Dexter. Cause Dexter was in town the night the incinerator burnt Matt? I'm sure there was others in town also.

Would've been really simple to just reveal Kurt has cameras around town and he saw Dexter do it, but instead they just give u no explanation for how he knows it was Dexter.

Fair enough, but Kurt isn’t law enforcement nor does he have Dexter’s code, so he’s under no obligation to be sure before accusing Dexter

reply

Its bad writing though, he just in his head figured "Well its probably him, i don't know for sure but its good enough for me" no thats the writers not being clever enough to think of an explanation. Them writing Kurt finding the screws they thought was really clever and a grand unveiling, no, no it wasn't, that doesn't prove Dexter done it at all. In their head they thought they was being clever and explained it but they didn't.

Just like how they had no idea they wrote it where Angela actually had zero proof Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher but she still accused him and arrested him thinking she did. I think the writers was strung out on acid this season or something, cause half the shit they wrote made no sense.

reply

I agree about Angela's confidence about Dexter = BHB

Other than wheel marks, she had zero new evidence that wasn't available to La Guerta (other than being killed by Deb)

So yeah, it's still a stretch to accept that Angel's imminent arrival would justify Dexter killing Logan

reply

But surely Logan's death was unintentional, so no justification is required?

reply

Unintentional? LOL, what?

reply

Unintentional in the sense that if he'd done the sensible thing and cooperated, he'd still be alive today. But no, he had to reach for his gun when he had no hope of doing so, so he got his neck snapped - a poor decision he lived to regret. Oops, poor choice of words.

reply

I don't think "unintentional" means what you think it does.

reply

You're probably right :-p
Though, I suspect that Dexter might agree more with my... 'interpretation' of the word. What was it he said near the end - "he got in the way" or something?

reply

Logan's death was not unintentional it was impossible. If someone grabs your from behind they can easily choke you to death or if they know what they are doing can break your neck... BUT you can't do that if there is a jail cell in between the two people. The bars make it impossible to break the person's neck because you can't bend the person's head back far enough, the jail cell door keeps it from being possible. You could at best crush the person's windpipe but that would require you grabbing them in a different way than Dexter had Logan. This was the dumbest part of the show and was pretty much proof the writers were complete idiots. It was as if they writers were writing one story and then the show runners stepped in and said we need to kill Dexter so the writes ignored Dexter's character that had been built up over the years and made him do things that were simply beyond the character. And in this case beyond reality.

reply

I never understood that at all. For starters, why did Kurt even think to go to an incinerator to look for his son's remains to begin with? Who the hell thinks of that? And how would he have access to where the remains go to even be able to find the screws? Then he finds the screws and it's "Oh, it was Jim!"

Dexter has ALWAYS had sloppy writing. Some seasons were worse than others, but everything has always been too convenient. It was always something you had to accept to a degree.

reply

Thank you.

I asked this question here in another thread a few days ago. I thought I had stepped out of the room during a critical scene.

Based on your above analysis of all the missing steps, I'm wondering now if such a crucial scene or scenes accidentally got left out in editing.

reply

I seem to remember in one episode, kurt says to dexter about the time he met him outside the bar, he thought he had snow on him but then realised later it was ash which then lead him to the furnace where he found the screw.

reply

Yes, I remember that scene. Even at the time I saw it though it still didn't make a strong case for Kurt connecting Jim/Dexter to his son's murder.

i. How did Kurt specifically know that it was ash from the incinerator and not from -- say -- someone just burning crap in their backyard?

ii. Let's assume though that Kurt knows it's from the incinerator, and he decides to investigate it. What prompted him to root through the ash? Why would he suspect that a human body had been burned there? (Smell maybe? Bone bits in the ash?)

iii. Lastly, and most importantly, why would he assume that it was Jim/Dexter that killed and burned his son? He saw the IR camera video early on where his son and some mysterious other person encounter each other in the woods. But why would he assume that it was Dexter? Nobody else did except for the sherrif much later. Why would Kurt assume this person had killed his son?

Rhetorical questions...

reply

It was raining ash all over town. SO he goes to the incinerator and thinks, "It was Jim!" How the hell would he find the screw let alone conclude it was Jim?

reply

He wouldn't. Unless he was watching Jim dump something in the incinerator he wouldn't know who burned the body only that it was Matt's body if he found the screws. Although the other problem that Dexter would have been aware of is that burning a body doesn't really eliminate the body. The skeleton doesn't just go to ash it remains in the shape of the skeleton and has to be smashed. The only time you would get bones turned to ash would be in the instance of a high end incinerator that is not going to be what you have for a mere trash incinerator. Most crematoriums don't even use the higher end models because they are more expensive to use as they require a second round of burning and fuel. If you were doing medical waste disposal it would make sense but that wouldn't exist in a little town like this.

If Dexter burned the body he would need to go back after the burn was completed and break up the bones. If he did that he would have also likely noticed the screws himself as smacking the burnt bones with a how would have almost certainly created a metallic clank when the hoe or shovel to break the bones hit them.

reply

Well even more ridiculous is Angela gets an anonymous note with the screws saying Jim killed Matt... she believes the note, while completely ignoring the fact that it is more likely that whoever wrote the note killed Matt because the note writer has screws that were removed from the body. If she had gotten a CCTV video that showed Jim putting a body in an incinerator then it would make sense to believe Jim did it, but a random note would only make you suspicious... granted she seem to only get to the final hurdle of Jim/Dexter did it when she finds a screw at Jim's burnt cabin... but that screw really would only tell you that whoever wrote the note burned Jim's cabin not that Jim killed Matt.

reply

Angela is a problem too, yes. From the way she quickly turned on Jim to easily figured out who he was; all of it was a problem.

It never made much sense to me that she never once attempts to understand his side. When she realizes he faked his death and he tells her he did it because Rita and Deb's deaths, she doesn't even blink. Dude lost his wife and sister and faked his death and he gets NOTHING from her but anger. Then he helps her with Iris' body and gives her the killer and still NOTHING. No conflict from her whatsoever? Really? Just blind unabashed anger.

reply

Yet she covers up for Harrison and let’s him flee town even though all this trouble seemed to happen the second he arrived, even gives him some lunch money and a wink for a job well done. What a sick puppy this woman is.

reply

Right? Never once even contemplates siding with Dexter, but lets Harrison go? What the fuck? So much of the writing just wasn't well-thought out.

reply

Covering up for Harrison makes no sense either. Granted that she wipes the prints off the gun. She sent Harrison away in Jim's truck. She has no reason to have that gun in her possession. Maybe she can try to cover for him but I assume she can't do the investigating herself since her friend Logan and ex Jim are the victims. She's a potential witness. The resulting investigation is going to lead back to Harrison and result in a manhunt for the kid.

reply

He made a couple of cracks about cameras. The last one was when he broke into the high school with Harrison. I'm sure a very rich serial killer with a kill house and trophy cellar would have security all around.
