Effective and fast paced tech thriller

Just finished watching Kimi (2022). Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the film takes place during the Pandemic and is about a woman who is afraid to leave her apartment. When she discovers evidence of a possible crime, she finds that reporting it is more difficult and more dangerous than anticipated. This is an effective, fast paced tech thriller. Zoe Kravitz looks sexier than ever and gives an engaging performance. Not one of Soderbergh's best films, but certainly not one of his worst. Worth checking out. My rating is a 7/10. Kimi is currently streaming on Crave (in Canada) and HBO Max.

Agreed. Perfectly crafted, as many of Soderbergh's films.

I thought it was extremely average. Soderbergh really doesn't have a style does he? I like that he is at least making original content though.my rating , 5/10

It's not too bad indeed

It’s pretty good, if a little predictable. I missed watching small thrillers like this.

It’s also very 2022. It perfectly encapsulates today’s era with smartphones, alexa, remote jobs and the huge impact of Covid.

I tend to agree with a lot of the takes here. It's not among Soderbergh's best, or worst, but it's very by-the-numbers (and cribs quite a bit from other thrillers including the Coppola masterpiece "The Conversation").

reply

Yeah it's pretty good. Starts out slow but gets way better in the second half.

That's promising. My sister's been recommending it, but I keep putting it off.

Yeah, it definitely wasn't what I expected at all from the description. Glad I finally got around to watching it. It's a smaller scale of a story, which is great. And I thought, aside from a couple of moments, it all went down rather believably. The pacing was excellent and the narrative proceeded quite naturally, especially as it all snowballs during the second half of the movie.
