To be honest, i was surprised how much i enjoyed this one...

...think it was Marsden's performance. He really gives it a lot of energy and
is quite likable in the role.

I also really enjoy Gary Cole in pretty much anything. Very underrated
actor. He doesn't have much to do here, but he's a real pro.

I went in dreading this one, but was surprised how lighthearted and fun
it was.

My 4 year old and 2 year old enjoyed it.

I totally agree - I didn't realize James Marsden was so great at comedy. I took my 7 yr old grandson and I enjoyed it as much as he did.

James Marsden is a great actor. He is very funny in "Enchanted" as Prince Edward.

Yes he did make this movie but I have to admit I liked Russell Brand as E.B. too.
And Carlos the head chick played by Hank Azaria is hysterical.

Great line delivery by all the actors!

Its a good fun clean movie for Easter in addition to the Religious Easter movies we watch to give the kids a little fun!

... End of line.

same here...I took my 5 year old tonight, since it's Easter, I thought "why not?" I didn't really have any high hopes for this film, but I was surprised by how much I really enjoyed it! EB was so cute and I loved the music!

My brother (9), dad, and I saw it tonight and I thought the same too. I'm actually glad we opted for this instead of Rio.

It's the best kids film I've seen in a long while that isn't by Disney.

One of the main things I dreaded was the fact that I thought it would be highly CGI based and very... Well... Dr. Seuss like. You know, like very complex fantasy stuff. But no, it was very balanced and had half of the humans and half of the cartoons and very little "make believe" garbage like in other like films.

It's not Oscar material, but it will be a film that will be a TV hit in years to come. Probably something ABC Family will show a lot.

My friend and I took her 4 kids to see it the other week. My friend was laughing louder than her kids at times. It was adorable and I enjoyed Phil. I love Gary Cole - he is definitely an underrated actor.

It was nice to see Elizabeth Perkins in a movie, I hadn't seen her on screen in a while.

And Hugh Laurie - as the father - perfect casting.

Agreed.

This was a light hearted fun family movie. I have no idea why it has such a low score, people take these movies way too seriously: it's a family movie, chill it doesn't have to make sense or fit your idea of what easter should be (smh) for goodness sake's it's about the easter BUNNY!

Anyways, good light hearted fun. I would give this an nice little 7 but gave it a 9 to help bring up the score which is ridiculously low.

Since I love Despicable Me so much I wanted to see Hop just because it was made by the same production company. I expected nothing and was pleasantly surprised as to how much I enjoyed this movie.

I think some people read way too much into this movie and don't realize that it's just an animated film for families.

Hey! That one looks like me!

I just saw this today and I enjoyed it too. I pretty much watched it for James Marsden as well (he was so funny in the trailers I saw) and thought he put in a good performance.

Also, as you say Gary Cole doesn't have a lot to do but he did a good job. I hadn't realized he was in this movie. It's just a fun little romp, IMO. I was a bit dismayed to come on here and see how disliked it was. It's not a great movie but it's not that bad either, I thought.

Count me as another pleasantly surprised viewer. Caught this today (Easter) and honestly, I was expecting it to be pretty bad given this movie's poor critical reception. But yet again, the critics are out of step with everyone else's expectations. If you are foolish enough to come away from this movie expecting to find the key to life then YES you are going to be very disappointed. It's an unpretentious movie that doesn't set any lofty goals or try to tackle tough issues. Oh yeah, and it was made FOR KIDS for crying out loud.

The facts are: the acting is better than average, the plot is basic enough for kids yet compelling enough for adults, the animation is pretty good, the "adult jokes" aren't too uncomfortable to see with a 5 year-old, and the holiday hasn't been done to death in movies like Xmas or Halloween. Even Russel Brand (whom I detest otherwise) seemed to be genuinely entertaining here. So in my eyes this movie actually delivers what it advertises and then some, which is more than can be said for most of the crap that comes out of Hollywood these days.

I swear if Disney or Pixar released this same movie the critics would have loved it. Meanwhile this movie is basically on the same level as Disney's recent CGI outings and maybe even a little better than some. This isn't gripping cinema like A Clockwork Orange or Double Indemnity - nor does it pretend to be. It's light viewing aimed at kids and families. Apparently most critics didn't get the [fairly obvious] memo.

I borrowed the film from the library and totally cracked up watching it, it is cute and funny, especially when he was playing drums with the Blind Boys Of Alabama. Carlos the evil chick was a riot too!

reply

I enjoyed it for the same reason.

Totally agree with you here, on both accounts. Gary Cole is great and highly underrated. And to think that this highly entertaining and "sweet" movie (pun intended) only has the same rating as the dreck that is The Smurfs makes me really the question the validity of IMDB ratings in general.
