A Masterpiece...
Just viewed this at a screening downtown (again) and have to say that this film definitely deserves multiple viewings if you are on the fence. I'd have to say that some of the nuances and character dev that you miss on the first few screenings come to full fruition when you give it time to develop.
This movie will perhaps be better-appreciated in the next generation. For some reason, its theatrical run was marred by possible poor timing and lack of a cohesive marketing campaign. I saw it opening night and the crowd seemed to have a genuinely good time. I saw it three more times over its two-week run, but I'd have to say each crowd loved it.
Swardson's got some talent obviously (see A Haunted House) and Johnson makes up when Swardson's off screen. Add in Nealon and Ricci and you can't really ask for much more. I've seen it 16 times and keep digging in more to its meaning each time.
