Anyone else think this type of humor is dead?

I listened to the Grandmas Boy commentary and Dante and the others thought their script was oh-so amazing. At least Dante did, "He said you guys wrote a f....great script". (Talking about Swardson and others.) Okay now, GB has grown on me but let's pull back a little. They thought every little bit was so hilarious and witty, I guess to them. They were also smoking a bong during the commentary. I think they really believe this crass humor is still funny to mass audiences. I'm not surprised they actually made Bucky Larson. Not tryin to bash here just trying to find some answers....

This humour is terrible. Without meaning to sound harsh, it's humour aimed at retarded people.

Check out "A town called panic" for some real laugh out loud humour

Well I do have Aspberger's syndrome, so maybe that explains why I liked both films.

He doesn't mean 'retarded' as in mentally handicapped people, because THEY hate these kinds of movies too. He's talking about human beings with very low IQ's who drop out of school, don't use their brains for anything other than mobility and remembering where the refrigerator is and how to type on a computer keyboard.

I was actually thinking about this today, and thinking about how Grandma's Boy somehow transcended the other films. People will always enjoy stupid comedies, but the popularity fluctuates, and usually doesn't hold up.

When Jim Carrey was just getting big I remember my grandfather saying Carrey was a lot like Jerry Lewis (which isn't a novel comparison) but more astutely he said that as much as he loved Jerry Lewis when he was young, he grew to dislike the films. Jim Carrey caught wise and started doing different stuff. Adam Sandler has never caught wise, he's done a couple decent films, but always comes back to this, and they seem to only get worse, Rob Schneider was the first protege and has been just god awful. They just can't pull it together.

There's low brow, and then there's untalented and lazy.

There's a thin like between a stupid yet funny movie (such as Bio Dome and Grandmas Boy), and a movie that is just plain stupid, while trying to be funny (such as Bucky Larson). This managed to cross that line.

If Bucky Larson crossed that line, then Your Highness crossed, double-crossed, vomited, defecated, and pissed all over the line.

Couldn't disagree more. While Your Highness wasn't that great of a movie, it was still far from being a disaster. It was quite funny during multiple scenes, and it was also well acted.

Bucky Larson, however, is a complete trainwreck. There's absolutely nothing funny or well done about it. It honestly reminds me of other POS movies like "Vampires Suck." Horrible, just horrible.

"Rob Schneider was the first protege and has been just god awful... untalented and lazy" Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (cowriter, lead actor), Big Stan (director, lead actor, uncredited rewriting), and The Hot Chick (cowriter, lead actor) are all quality comedies. Saying Schneider is lazy is lazy.

I think this movie *might've* done alright in the 80s. Today? Well, the reviews & box office #s speak for themselves.

The 70's-80's were great for stupid comedies! You had all those actors coming from SNL and going into movies, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, etc etc I can remember going to the movies almost every weekend to see a new one. We couldn't wait for the next Porkey's sequel! Yeah somethings missing from comedies these days. I still contend that the best comedy of my lifetime is Caddyshack, always looking for something that matches up, The Hangover came close but not quite.

BTW I havent seen this movie, wanted to but now reading the board glad I haven't. I may still watch it free online where I can turn it off when I feel like it. Funny thing is even the pirate streaming sites don't have it. Guess no one figured it was worth an hour and a half of their time to pirate it!

it is funny to mass audiences, of men at least. we just don't want to admit the majority of us are immature or way too easily entertained
