Boss Johns

Why'd they make him Johns's father, instead of a brother or something? The actor is only 3 years older than his 'son'.

I guess the movies are supposed to take place closer together chronologically than they actually do, but is that important enough to justify this? Also even if it were only a couple of years after Pitch Black, he'd still have been adolescent when his 'son' was born.

I don't get it.

I completely agree. I actually came here to post the same thing. I thought for sure that when he said his name was Johns, it was for sure going to be his brother. It would make a lot more sense.

This happens way too often in movies. I wish writers and casting paid more attention to detail. The viewers shouldn't have to come up with tortured explanations.

With things like cryo-sleep and stasis pods, it's plausible that they could be father and son. All it would take would be that Boss Johns spent more time not aging during Cryo for a handful of years several times during his career while the son didn't.

You can't forget that the son was also a heavy morphine addict for who knows how long, and that will take a toll on anyone after a while. That can easily make you look much older than you are depending on the level of use

Not by much. Boss Johns says the events of the first movie happened "ten years ago" and the movies were released thirteen years apart. So given the relative ages of the actors when the movies came out, he would have been two years older than his "son".

We could come up with all sorts of explanations and excuses for this (I like the cryosleep idea) but we shouldn't have to. It's a confusing plot hole and it takes you right out of the movie. They should have known better and cast an older actor, or at the very least made him up to look older.

I've wondered about this since the film came out. Very poor mistake by the film writers and editors I suppose.
