Are you surprised they never recasted Elena?

I know in this show it's easy to keep the characters and just switch there bodies. We seen this on the originals a lot especially with Rebekah and Finn. But I am surprised with how big Elena is as a character with the show they just didn't recast her instead of waiting for Nina to come back. You think they regret it now?

reply

That would've caused an uproar. She is pretty much THE biggest character on the show, recasting her wouldn't have went down well. You can do that with minor characters, not the main friggin star.

reply

They did that with Rebeckah and she is a big character with the originals same with all of them.

reply

No, Nina's kinda awesome. But I'd settle for Katherine in Rose's body. Better than no K.
GoT did a lot of recasting, and the reatings increased. But never someone mayor.

I really like Nina Dobrev, I think she is an awesome actress and her ability to portray Katherine/Elena so differently that at times I forgot that they were played by the same actress is a feat worth massive applause. Having said that, from a storytelling POV, the character of Elena needed to be either killed off OR re-casted once ND decided to leave.

At the moment the we have the worst of both worlds...neither, which has held the story telling and character development back, especially for Damon.

Agree, I like Nina too, it is not easy to portray 2 different characters on the same show. I think she is better than the girl in Orphan Black, honestly. Agree that we now have the worst of both worlds, but I think the answer should have been to kill her. Recasting her with 2 more seasons would not have been well recieved. And I think the whole thing is that people LOVE Delena, which is the reason they did not kill her, so I think recasting with a different actress would have effectively killed Delena as a big part of that is the chemistry of Nina and Ian. If they didn't have the chemistry in the first place, I doubt it would have been as big a hit.

Basically my point was that ever since Elena left the show there really hasn't been a point to the show. The entire show was revolved around her and the brothers. Now that big chunk is missing. These last two seasons have felt different. They should have ended it at season six as well if Nina was leaving.

no

Of course just like I am surprised that they have not recasted Rebekah. If the actors/actress dont want to be part of a show then why give them that power. They dont think your show is good enough for them so move on. Give the role to someone who thinks it is worth giving your time.

Well to be fair to Nina she wanted to leave because of the situation with her and Ian were getting so bad on set it was getting toxic. And I heard that Ian isn't that cool of a guy on set. I don't know about Claire's reason for leaving Originals so early in it's run. That's drama I haven't read about yet.

No i'm glad they didn't recast her. Nina was always such an asset to the show, a very talented actress with beauty and poise. She was a standout on a show full of excellent actors and actresses.

The storylines have been dull without her, but it has let others like Bonnie shine a little more.

Hot guys + dark subject matter + plenty of violence = watchable television.

reply

Really? Because Bonnie always shined when Elena was on what are you talking about? She was a main focus with Jeremy in season three. She had a rivalry with Damon during the early seasons. She was the first one who knew about the supernatural world besides Elena in the show. I would say they used Bonnie Plenty.

reply

Yeah, I never said that.

reply

Yes you did actually.

"but it has let others like Bonnie shine a little more."

Your exact words. I think they handled Bonnie very well with screen time as well as Caroline. Plus Elena was the main star of the show.
