Water pressure

When I try submitting goofs to IMDb, they're never accepted. I suppose the things I mention fall under the heading of artistic license. Would that also cover having a character open a car door under water as easily as in thin air? I won"t bother submitting this or searching this very large message board to see if anyone else has groaned or sighed or laughed at it. For that matter, I have't tried opening a door under water to see how hard it really is. Can anybody tell me?

(Chuckle.) Well put. Anyway, I need to keep reminding myself that if directors made things perfectly plausible we'd have to face a lot of dull movies.

The admins probably decided you are incorrect in the situation shown.

The taxi driver broke the door window with a steering wheel lock to escape, allowing water to rush in. She surfaces then notices that her passenger is unconscious in the back which hasn't fully yet filled with water. Although the camera angle does not explicitly show it, she might have tried to open the rear door at that point, failing due to the rear cab being partially submerged.

She then returns to the driver's seat to retrieve the steering wheel lock. At that point, the front cab has completely submerged, equalizing pressure and allowing the door to be opened easily. She swings open the door, grabs the lock and surfaces to climb the lid of the trunk to smash open the back window.

This case is not a matter of artistic license. Your other submissions might also assume the wrong facts. It's an easy error to make. Continue to ask questions on the board first to get an explanation. If nobody can explain, then try to submit the goof to the admins for approval.

On the other hand, you could ignore what seem like goofs as I do. I expect the laws of physics in a movie to be fictitious or in an alternate reaity and not follow the same rules of my reality unless it is specifically a documentary. It's much easier to enjoy a movie when I don't nitpick a detail which doesn't change the value of the story.

As the poster above noted, the cabin was almost completely submerged by the time she opened the front door.

Btw, MythBusters did two very interesting tests to proof the theory that one cannot open the door from inside as long as the pressure differential hasn't stabilized.

I have to admit I watched that scene and thought the producers succeeded in depicting a fairly life like rescue scenario.🐭
