*Love Jennifer Lawrence But This Movie Stinks (serious)*

Ok since watching Silver Linings Playbook, I have put Jennifer Lawrence in the top 2 of my Top 10 Hottest Women list in the world today. You know who #1 is obviously. Anyways, she was hot in SLP and great acting and movie. Then I saw Hunger Games and liked her even more. So what does someone like myself do? We watch other movies that are supposed to be rated high.

Winter's Bone (WB) got 94% on RT and 7.3 on IMDB. So I was like 'this is surely going to be a decent movie'. WRONG!

This movie is one of the most overrated and disappointing movies I ever saw. I saw:

-no point
-weak plot
-slow story-telling
-characters I didn't care about
-a conflict that I didn't understand
-weak resolution and conclusion

Jennifer's acting was ok I guess. The accent was believable. But so little goes on with this movie that it is just terrible. And don't give me the 'low-budget' excuse. Primer had $7000 budget and is 100x better than this movie.

"I watched this 'cos Jennifer Lawrence is hot, didn't understand what was going on and it wasn't exciting enough."

I think this is more a critical review of MikeCart1, than it is on the movie itself.

but hey, the accent was believable

reply

Agreed. Nailed it brilliantly and concisely. Good work

I am not going to critique your critique because your OP as well as the first reply pretty much summed that up.

My question is do you really think a computer generated blue babe is the hottest thing around? That is just bizarre.

@OP

looking at your top ten list it seems as though your tastes are more in the fanboy type than the pretentious/artsy type. Winter's Bone appeals more to the latter. Doesn't make you or them more right than the other. Just different tastes.

It's a hint that it only has a mediocre 7.3 on young/male/fanboy heaven imdb but a superb 90 on Metacritic (Third best rated American movie behind TS3 and Social Network in 2010). http://www.metacritic.com/feature/best-and-worst-movies-of-2010

Read some of the critic reviews. That could help you understand more.

Did you actually WATCH the movie?

-no point
A young, girl having to step/grow up to save her family against seemingly insurmountable odds
-weak plot
Local culture/ways, Murder, mystery, intrigue.
-slow story-telling
Moved along nicely for me. VERY little wasted time. Almost all scenes (including dream scene) were very relevant.
-characters I didn't care about
Sure Ree was (understandably) guarded but she was courageous, intelligent, industrious, soft spoken and no-nonsense. Maybe you don't like people that for the most part, keep to themselves and take care of business?
-a conflict that I didn't understand
No elaboration needed.
-weak resolution and conclusion
She saved her family home, got a little money, came out of it with virtually no enemies and a future of unlimited possibilities.

A very good, realistically satisfying movie to me.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

It's obvious that Winters Bone was in shot in the Ozarks. The accents for once sounded perfect instead of terrible. They did great job with the characters. The way they look, live, speak, dress, fix their hair, people helping her, stuff they cook, hunting, Ree taking care of her brother and sister, skinning their own meat ect is realistic for the life of these kind of poor people. The pace was very well done. Storyline was entertaining. Writing was very good. Scenes were directed beautifully. Acting was great. They paid attention to little details. That's why I enjoy the movie.

I really liked Ree character. She is loving person who takes care of her brother and sister.

I can understand some people not likening Winters Bone. This movie has no glamour in any way. It's gritty movie that's realistic life about some very poor country people.

I watched this movie the year it came out and it didn't really move me but I did think the story was somewhat interesting. I then watched it a 2nd time with the commentary on...I loved it! The culture of the Ozarks was explained and you realized how real the movie was.

Please see the movie with the commentary on. I hope you agree with me as to how well done it was.
