Grew up in a city, been to country places like the Ozarks, but if people are really like that, you've got to really despise people like that -- who would ever hurt a young woman trying to help her family? As hateful as you can get!!!

They're a family of drug dealers. They're not indicative of "rednecks." Hell, had you paid closer attention you'd have noticed all the other good people; the neighbor looking out for the kids, her best friend, the bail bondsman, etc.

This whole family was into crank and cooking it. Ree going around asking questions was putting all of them in a tough spot. They all knew Jessup was dead except Ree and they needed to keep that hidden forever. That is one reason they were so brutal, but I do agree, if you have a family like hers, you are better off being raised by a pack of wolves.
