Changes Page to Screen

Okay I haven't seen this on here and it's been bugging me a little. I accept that there are and always will be changes in adapting a book. I've made my peace that I will not always like those changes. This isn't about a love it or hate it change. This is just a what? change.

Why is Jed now an American being played by an Australian who was British in the book?

I get giving her a child, didn't think it was necessary, but I understand the choice.

I don't get why she's suddenly no longer English though.

Thoughts?

Maybe the makers thought that would help with the ratings across the pond?

Perhaps some (very) unnecessary changes, however she's phenomenal in this. Both naked and dressed. The entire cast, locations, scenography, direction and more... This mini-series is a real gem. From the looks of it, not to everyone's tastes, but I enjoyed it. Wonderful.

(Some more questionable choices, perhaps, why were some murders bloody and towards the end the thug in the hotel room doesn't get executed by MI6 woman; some things could've been different, maybe, but it's a great show... Top 100 for sure. :))

Possibly to help further define why they don't end up together in the end?
