Was this show supposed to be several seasons long and cut short? (Spoilers)

I love most of Sheridan's movies and shows and his writing, but Elsa's behaviour make no sense to me unless the show was cut short and they had to cram everything together in 1 season.

Ep 1, starts with her flirting with a random old guy in train.
Ep 3, meets cowboy starts flirting with him.
Ep 4, fucks cowboy and gets engaged to cowboy after knowing him for only days...
Ep 5, cowboy dies.
Ep 6, grieves like she lost her husband of 60 years and is about to commit suicide on his grave.
Ep 7, couple of days later of almost commiting suicide, meets native, flirts with native, fucks native.
Ep 8, couple of days later she decides to abandon her family, marry the native and is already dressing like a native, because of course thats what you do after you love someone.
Ep 10, dies and goes to heaven with native for eternity. I guess she knew the native for 5 days and the cowboy for 4 so he gets the girl.
