Blackhawkswin, this is not a prequel.
H5O is a reboot too. One of the things I dislike about it is that they did it with all the original character names. Steve I get it, he's the son but the others have no relation to the originals except the names.
"MacGyver" is as they called it a "reimagining" of the original. And by the definition of a reboot it is a true reboot of the original. A reboot is "to produce a distinctly new version of (an established media franchise, as a film, TV show, video game, or comic book)". http://www.dictionary.com/browse/reboot And quite frankly if you take what everybody is complaining about, they would still be complaining about it in a continuation.

Maybe when the project was first discussed but not this version of it! Everyone involved in this version refers to it as a "reimagining" of the original set in modern times. It changed very early in the discussions away from being a prequel. If you're going to read spoilers you need to keep up with them, they can change at any time (or simply be wrong) that's what makes them spoilers.
