Because those characters were a joke, and this show is a reboot not a remake. There is no need to recreate every character. For example, we don't need a ditzy Penny Parker.

There are a lot of people who wanted and have expected a prequel.
All I wanted was for '85 to be considered canon, then let them go forward with that. That leaves a lot of license for them to still schmuck it up but would have helped give Lenkov some direction, which he obviously needed.
