They could fix this show a little if they just got rid of Jack Dalton

They basically gave MacGyver a gun--in the form of a character who doesn't mind using guns. And it takes a lot of the suspense away from it. "How will MacGyver get out of this one?" The answer is always "Jack Dalton". In fact they could probably have gotten rid of the MacGyver character and just had an action show about a guy named Jack Dalton not connected to MacGyver at all (and I wouldn't watch it)

Surrounded by guns in a warehouse? What will Mac think of to get out of this-- oh nevermind, Jack just pulled in with his car.

Anytime they need a character to use a gun, they just give it to another character and make it the simple solution. MacGyver always got himself into crazy situations, and always got out of them by using his head. This MacGyver doesn't do that--and it's kind of boring. Your average action show on CBS. What makes MacGyver work as a character is that he's always having to figure out how to get out of situations that he has no business getting out of. Now they basically let Jack Dalton get him out of situations.

....Or just name the show "Dalton" instead of "MacGyver." That would have taken away all of the controversy, as well.

That's what we need - ridiculous odds, and just a speck of hope that someday, we'll beat it

Yeah, if they wanted another action show, they didn't need to make it MacGyver. They basically named it MacGyver to draw fans of the original, then made it Dalton's show to appeal to viewers who've never heard of MacGyver and want big action scenes instead of science based solutions.
