Not using weapons

What's the difference if the bad guys die in a car crash after he throws a Molotov cocktail at their car?

Fighting a religious war is like fighting over whose imaginary friend is better.

MacGyver did something similar in the original series, so it is not exactly unfitting. Also, MacGyver does use weapons quite a bit, including guns on a few occasions, but usually, not in a straightforward by the book way. This new series has been a bit ambiguous toward Mac's dislike of guns. It is a much different character this time around.

Yeah, he "used" a gun to hit someone with on a couple of occasions. Never shot anyone with a gun, even when a gun was available for him to use.

In the original, he did a couple of creative things with guns without shooting or even hitting someone. If I remember correctly, there was a specific use featured in the opening at one point. I think it was from the episode Charlie Sheen's sister guest stared in.

Classic MacGyver is like Spider-Man. He likes to let the bad guys' own folly kill themselves. He's a real dick about it too, just like Spidey.
