I think I've heard a few chords played before it jumps to another theme song.
WHERE THE HELL IS RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON ?

He has firmly shown he has no interest in participating because it doesn't honor the style MacGyver fans have come to know over the previous 31 years.

This isn't what Lenkov thinks MacGyver should be in today's world. In his eyes, it's an antiquated notion that '85 MacGyver is less than possible in everyone's minds. In '85, the show received tons 'o suggestions from college-aged students, ala "Did you know if you do <x>, <y> will happen?" and getting things on an episode was practically a sport. Today, it's as though they're afraid to do much with MacGyver's mental edge over most people as though if the entire hack is presented, there will be serious consequences when the younger viewers will give it a shot[1], and if something is left out, they'll work to find it on the Internet.

November Sweeps (which is when the advertising rates will be adjusted to account for the viewership of TV shows, including the local news (wherever you may be), which is why they pull all of the show ponies out of the barn and will tell you about an exposé at your favorite restaurant/polician, etc. I don't think CBS can drop another show in the schedule [before Sweeps] and hope to get any degree of ratings they think they can get with MacGyver.

According to EpGuides, MacGyver has 2 more shows in the can (after tomorrow night) and IMDB says there are 3. If a show is patently a stinker in the eyes of the suits, a show can get yanked at any time. If they have some degree of faith, it might make it to 7. After that, it becomes 13 or 23 episodes (the latter doesn't mean it's going to be picked up for next season, although they might decide to do some serious retooling. Any more, the commitment is 23 as a standard to give the show a chance. Without a commitment like that, and the people controlling the show will go elsewhere.

One of the difficult things about poor viewership is the creative forces visiting online sites, such as IMDB, usenet, etc. is verboten. The concern is someone might see a suggestion which could affect the show - and if it's possible to show that influence, then the people who are hands-on (creatively) could find themselves on the wrong end of a copyright suit. That'll get them free publicity, but not the good type. There are a number of stories about this type of thing happening, and occurring right before some material is about to be filmed -- too close to what the episode was going to do and they have to do some creative restructuring to avoid the appearance of theft. The closest they can [usually] come is to have a low-level clerical type go out and take a gander at what's going on and report things which aren't related to the creative aspect of the show, essentially relaying information in the form of clean room engineering or a Chinese wall. I don't think there are many surprises when a show sucks -- the crew normally knows this on their own.

Once November Sweeps is over, then it's a question of: will it get the standard 23 episodes or will a mid-season replacement be found to try & get some eyeballs before February (and May) Sweeps.

IMO, MacGyver '16 should have been a mid-Season replacement so they could work to overcome what happened in the first pilot and should should have happened after the 2nd one was filmed.
