Guess what, network television is broken! It may be broken beyond repair but at least their trying something to bring viewers back.

10 years ago or so most network shows got 15 to 18 million viewers with over 2.0 in the demo. Now network shows struggle to get near/above 10 million viewers and stay above 1.0 in the demo. So why not? Why not take a fringe show (and that's all "MacGyver" was, a show that barely made it into the top 50 when it was on the air) from the 80's (or earlier in the case of H5O and "Battlestar Galactica" reboots) put in a new cast and write some current storylines and see if it does anything. And it may just be working, at least a little bit. H5O's ratings have gone up this year and it's believed to be because "MacGyver", a similar show from the same showrunner is on before it.

The fact that Patricia Thornton was made a traitor, a character who was based on Pete Thornton played by Dana Elcar in the original makes me incline to withdraw whatever support I ever had for this show.

I said on the "MacGyver on CBS" Facebook page that the main difference between this version and the 1985 version is that the storylines these days aren't all wrapped up in 1 episode. The "Early Retirement" episode of the 1985 "MacGyver" (3x12 - Pete is forced into early retirement by Matt Webber after being made to believe an explosion during a project was his fault) would be a season long arc these days!

CBS has always been the old people network and their new schtick when they aren't making endless laugh track sitcoms that aren't funny or rehashes of CSI/NCIS they are making a bunch of shows based on franchises that have each episode resolved in one airing and rarely have a running narrative. It's sad that this network dominates Network Television but there are a lot of people who have extremely low expectations from television. Others will order HBO, Showtime and other premium networks.

CBS has been absolute shït for years and will remain so. They are the most arrogant and smug bastards out there.
