I'll give this a chance but Tim Curry
Will always be a scarier Pennywise
shareHe was delightful
shareAgreed. I didn't get a good impression from the trailers so far, though I'd love to be proven wrong. The main issue I see with the new Pennywise is he's too bluntly projecting "BOO! I'M A SCARY CLOWN!" He looks threatening in the same way an angry lion looks threatening.
What made Tim Curry's Pennywise more unsettling and scarier, in my opinion, was the ambiguity. You weren't sure whether to laugh at him or fear for your life. The fact that he sometimes appeared friendly to children always left you feeling uneasy, wondering when his true self would emerge.
The new Pennywise is wearing a dress. Is "he" transgendered? Maybe "he" should drop the wise part and just go by Penny.
shareI can see them trying to literally create the image from the first time we are introduced to Pennywise in the book and Georgie "[is] never really sure of the gender" as IT looked like a cross between Bozo and Clarabell. However, I agree the outfit looks rather silly... and in a strange way Tim Curry pulls off the androgynous appearance by default. There's something very flamboyant about that man.
Anyway.. guess we have to wait and see! :)
