I can't believe I liked this film.

Everything about it screamed "this will be complete trash". But I decided to check it out as I like to see most notable Horror films that are released.

I liked it. It helps that my expectations were rock bottom. I've seen this likened to Mother! (2017) several times, and that's a film I can't stand.

- The cinematography is lush and full of color. Beautifully shot.

- The acting performances are stellar. Buckley is very good but Kinnear is outstanding. His performance as several staple Brit wankers is awesome. Perhaps it's lost on Americans but, for example, Geoffrey the first Man she encounters is a smarmy old wanker whom I personally have encountered numerous times in my life. It was hiliariously accurate.

- The folk deity elements were interesting. It's never fully explained but that's part of the charm, makes you want to read into it.

- I found it fast paced enough. I've seen some call it a slog and bore but the runtime flew by for me personally.

- For all the talk about how 'weird' and batshit this film is, and it is in a way, I didn't find it too out there or off-putting. The ending reminded me of Society (1989). Good stuff.

I liked it as well for all the reasons you listed. I thought there was an unnerving sense of dread throughout as well which Alex Garland can always capture so well.

It's my third favourite horror film from this year so far after The Black Phone and X.

I'm honestly surprised at the vitriol it's receiving. I enjoyed it as much as the more popular A24 Horror films which have receieved major appraisal.

I haven't seen The Black Phone yet but I'm looking forward to it. I enjoyed X too.

You Won't Be Alone and Crimes of the Future are two other Horror films I've enjoyed this year.
