Callen's sister?

In last night's episode, we find out that Callen has a half sister. I am wondering was it the woman who was poisoned or her daughter? Callen said to his dad "You're a grandfather." and his dad replied back "You're an uncle." Who is Callen the uncle too though?

Thanks in advance!

reply

Callen's half-sister, Alex, has a son (Garrison's grandson and Callen's nephew).

reply

the woman who was poisoned worked for the CIA in the 1980s then fled to America in 1988...Callen's father turned out to be her handler when they were both working for the CIA and they had a romantic relationship which resulted in the birth of Callen's half-sister. Callen is the uncle to his half-sister's son (the little boy we saw in the ep).

reply

I know it's a good thing that Callen knows more about his dad, but I think Garrison is selfish. How could any father think a 5 yr. old child would be better on his own? And why didn't he come when Callen had been shot? He came for Katarina and Alex, but not Callen. I hope Callen moves on now and gets his own family--a real family.

reply

I so agree. I don't like Garrison. He is manipulative, and how dare he expect Callen call him Father when he has truly never wanted that.

Like you said he came for his daughter, but not his son. So he needs to stop having expectations!

I do believe the writers messed up Callen's backstory ever since they brought in Garrison. Hope Callen lineage can change.

reply

Agree about Garrison; he sucks. He better have a GOOD reason for ignoring his only son for 30+ years. If not, I hope Callen kicks his scrawny ass out the door--but Callen won't. As Garrison said to him in Russia, "You're a good man." Can't say the same about his father. 😣

Have to agree. Better off without me? Mom's murdered in front of you when you're 5, you're separated from your only sister, you spend 13 years in foster homes and orphanages (37 different ones), your sister dies in an accident--you never see her again, you're shot 5 times and on life support--but your father never comes to see you. How much worse could it get, Garrison, or should I call you, "Dad"?

reply

I agree with all of you about Garrison being one very selfish dad...although I can understand the nature of his work saing and helping many refugees flee Russia took him away from his family...I suppose he thought Callen and his sister would be safer and have a better life by being raised by their mother...until of course she was murdered. But it does annoy me that he completely abandoned them and severed all ties with them to the point that he wouldn't even come when Callen was shot, or when his mother & sister were both killed. He would come for Katarina and her daughter, but not Callen and his sister? Very selfish on his part.

I completely agree with Callen on this...like Callen, I also understand the nature of Garrison's work wanting to help many refugees it took him away from his family, but I also cannot forgive Garrison for abandoning his family 40+ years ago and not being there when Callen and his sister needed him the most after their mother was murdered.
But maybe he did try to save Callen's mother Clara in Romania? I remember in one scene with Garrison and Hetty and they were discussing Clara's death, Garrison told Hetty "we are all to blame"...maybe that meant he did try to go to Romania to save Clara? I don't know.

reply

I also wonder if the writers remember previous episodes. In the episode in Moscow about the oil sale, when Hetty tells G his father died in 2008, G says that he was in Moscow for years while his father was still living. This would have been when G was working for the CIA--and in Glasnost we learn that Garrison was working for the CIA. In all those years, when both G and his father worked for the CIA, Garrison NEVER thought to contact his son? Seriously? It'd be more than stupid for his excuse to be that by contacting him he might put G in danger when G was a CIA agent himself; he was already in danger. I hope the writers don't screw the pooch and forget all these things when they continue this reconciliation between G and Garrison because it'll make this story line suck.

reply

Another thing G and Ana have in common: besides both being part-Russian, both don't have real fathers--just men who got their mothers pregnant.

reply

And why didn't he come when Callen had been shot?

Easy - dad knew that Grisha had Hetty, so he was in better hands than dad could have ever offered.

reply

true...Hetty has been more of a parent to Callen than Garrison ever was and probably ever would be...and since his mother Clara was murdered when Callen was only 5 years old, Hetty has really been like a surrogate mother to Callen all these years.

reply

Seriously?!? That's the reason you think Garrison didn't come? That's how a father behaves? What a BS excuse. What if Callen had died? He didn't care about seeing see his only son before he died, but he wanted to see his lover? That sounds like a real father--NOT. Garrison wasn't even going to let Callen know he was in LA this time. He's never been a father to him--and he isn't one now. He was just the sperm donor.

reply

I'm sorry, was my <sarcasm> flag not visible?

reply

Guess I did. Does it look like this--on a flag, of course? 👽 Is that close? 

reply

well I personally think that excuse is plausible, considering it's obvious by now that Garrison is a terrible father...and he knew about Hetty too, so he probably thought Callen would be in safe hands, and he was and still is. I think he didn't come to see Callen when he was shot because he probably had contacts in LA who told him that his son was alive...and Garrison does have alot of enemies, he probably thought it would be safer for Callen if he didn't show up and re-enter into Callen's life after all these years.
Still, your son has been shot and almost died, and you don't go to visit him after 40+ years? It's hard to forgive Garrison for completely abandoning his family like that.

reply

ITA! I'm not even sure he came for his daughter or lover. I think he just felt guilty for taking the money and it caused trouble for some he "somewhat cared about".

Somewhat cared about, because I see a pattern in his "relationships". He uses people(and not just for the job), especially women and if he knows he isn't Father material why not make sure you don't create more. Irresponsible!

reply

Agree. Garrison isn't "father" material. We can't choose our family, but now that Callen's seen who his dad is--that his work is more important than the people in his life, he can move on and start his own. Callen seems much more like "father" material and Ana suits him--he is LONG overdue for some loving (and don't you know Arkady would love to have Callen as his son-in-law). 

reply

as much as I would love to see Callen finally finding a partner and start a family of his own and be happy...but honestly, he doesn't really strike me as the father or family man type, unlike Sam is...Callen in comparison seems content with just being single, or at least have relationships with no strings attached. And Callen seems more like the 'uncle' type, someone who likes to spend some time with other people's kids, but don't really want to have kids of his own. And I get the same kind of vibe from Anna too...I mean, can you picture Anna as a wife & mother? Both her and Callen are sort of cut from the same cloth, they are both very independent, head-strong and enjoys their freedom...so it's difficult to imagine either of them getting married, settling down and have kids.

reply

Disagree. I think the writers have been working on the evolution of Callen from a lone wolf to more of a companion-father type. He relates so well to kids in recent episodes: Purity, Skin Deep, Rage, Seventh Child, Home is Where the Heart Is, and Parallel Resistors. His character has a natural empathy and gentleness, and he's very protective of kids. Don't have any opinion about Ana as a mom; haven't seen enough of her, but along that line, it's hard to see the character of Kensi as a mom--she's very much someone who keeps to herself in her own right and isn't warm and cuddly either (except with Deeks). I can definitely seeing Callen getting married to someone. Now that he know so much about his past, he can move ahead. Not knowing who he was, his name, his father--these kept him from committing to someone else. If he really wanted to be alone, he wouldn't join Sam and his family so often for the holidays (or be hurt when not included in their holiday plans).
