well I have started watching the series very recently & I like the show so far. I'm in 5th season mid-way..

I haven't watched NCIS (the original series), so I have no clue about that show. I had started watching NCIS: New Orleans & some one suggested me to try LA.

I will be honest, I liked the series & most of the characters so far but I'm so fed up of watching the romance angle between Kensi & Deeks, why can't be they just produce the series as if they're just working partners like what Sam & Callen are. Just because you have a female lead, is it necessary to link her up with one of the main characters ?

Its so "cringy" to be watching the show almost revolving around these 2 characters relationship alone, there was so much promise for these characters to be built up on. I'm used to watching shows where the leads fall for each other but this series was def. not one of such when it began with. Season 5 feels so heavenly for me... as it has too little of Kensi & Deeks together, I mostly fast forward scenes which has these 2 interacting. Look at Hawaii-FiveO for example, it has a female lead in it as well but she doesn't have an relationship with her co-worker. Steve McGarrett did have a relationship with his g/f who became a short time member of the task force but they were in a relationship even prior to joining the team.

May be I should be thanking heavens for not showing a relationship between Hetty & Granger (RIP Miguel).

Enough of my rant for the day .. I guess :p

You are definitely NOT one of the only ones. There are many viewers who find the Kensi-Deeks relationship a total distraction and incredibly annoying. It's a sorry state that every female has to "hook up" with a male lead. If you're in season 5, I hate to tell you but seasons 6 & 7 are heavy on the Kensi-Deeks cutesy fest.

For many the Deeks/Kensi romance distracts from the show and sets a soap opera tone. It's also been detrimental to Kensi because in S1 we saw her as a mentor and senior agent to Dom, but shortly after Deeks arrived, she's barely existed outside of the romance.

At best Deeks should have remained in the LAPD while Kensi kept Dom as a partner. It would have given Kensi a life outside of Deeks, and kept the romance to a minimum. Like what we've seen with Callen and Sam.

Agree. The more I re-watch season 1, the more I like the Kensi-Dom dynamic. It was great to see her act as mentor--and show her independence and skills (I also liked her being the "forensics" person on the team; yet another "skill" she's lost since teaming with Deeks).

Deeks could have been a recurring character instead of her love interest. He doesn't add anything to the team that Callen, Sam, and Kensi don't already have--except silliness and immaturity (not sure these are things you want on a crack federal investigative team).

I believe Deeks would have never come to fruition if Brian Avers (Agent Renko) hadn't turned down the chance to be a regular after the backdoor pilot.

But the whole Densi thing has become a distraction. And their relationship drama takes away from the true focus of the show.

This is why it was a good idea that Tony and Ziva never amounted to anything on screen on NCIS. It would have distracted from the show.

Densi has only proved that all our concerns about having an on-screen relationship between two partners were well-founded.

I didn't know that Renko had turned down a chance to be a regular. Too bad. I liked his character a lot (much more than Deeks). Now Renko had a REAL edge to him, and his teaming with Kensi would have been sweet.

I also didn't know this, but it makes sense. When I went back and watched the cross-over pilot, I was surprised to see him feature quite heavily. It's interesting that they weren't going for such a clownish character at first.

And let me correct myself. They offered Brian Avers the chance to be a series regular after Adam Jamal Craig's character (Dominic Vail), was written out in Season 1. Avers declined it, and so they created the character of Marty Deeks to replace Dom.

no you are not the only one, many people actually hate the whole "Densi" relationship and find them boring, annoying and distracting...the producers are only bending over backwards to please the minority group of very loud Densi shippers and ignoring what the general audience actually wants.

Nope, you aren't, and there are a lot more of us than you might think--we're just not as loud as the Densi fanatics (I think a lot of us work--lol).

This season has been soooo much better because it hasn't had those stupid Densi scenes in every episode, but I fear that may be coming to an end. Once she's up and back with the team, can the Deeks silliness, his juvenile sense of humor (if you can call it humor), and his inappropriate comments be far behind? Oh well, we had at least 14 episodes with just a smattering of the Densi drivel, so that's something to be grateful for. Maybe Kensi and Deeks will get married off camera and then just STFU when they're at work. How refreshing that would be!

Agree! I HATE the "Densi" pairing--they have ZERO sexual/romantic chemistry! I love them, though, as work partners and friends.
