Our fifth and final retrospective of the year looks back at the relatively recent movies of 2010. That was just a decade ago, but oh how different things seemed then. The biggest movies at the box office were Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland and a post-Avatar 3-D craze was sweeping across cineplexes (which were still open!)share
It’s time to pick our winner.
Our two finalists for the Movies of 2010 bracket game are Kick-Ass and Inception. I fully expected to see Inception in the final round when I put this game together but I would have bet against Kick-Ass. I thought for certain that the site’s Disney fans were going to push Tangled into the finals.
Kick-Ass has always been an underdog both as a movie and a character. The movie actually under-performed at the box office. It got a sequel anyway in hopes that it had developed enough of a cult following on video to grow the franchise. But that didn’t work out and Kick-Ass 2 bombed.
Christopher Nolan’s Inception, on the other hand, was always a front-runner in this game. It was critically acclaimed at the time of its release and earned enough to be the fourth highest-grossing movie of the year. In a year dominated by cartoons and sequels, Inception stood out.
