Inception vs The Matrix

Which do you think is better? If I was forced to chose I'd probably go with The Matrix.

Loved both, differently, but equally. I don't like choosing "favorites", as that restricts life too much. And they are not really alike much at all. I mean, maybe a WEAK link from non-real reality, but, that is about it.

But if I ended up on a desert isle, with only one VCR tape and player and TV, I'd lean to The Matrix since I am a SCI-FI fan.

reply

How does that restrict life? You can have favorites and still like a lot of things.

reply

semantics. people can call things whatever they want to. I choose to not have "favorites". If I did, my "FAVORITES" would be: Inception and The Matrix ;)

reply

i think Inception is better, barely. But like gjb said, i rather watch Matrix on a dessert island. More fun.

reply

I like both, but "The Matrix" is a better film, or one that i prefer.

"Inception" looks cooler, and neither has a lot of solid logic in the script, but "Matrix" has a hero I can identify with and even love in a way. "Inception" doesn't.

reply

Definitely "The Matrix" (1999). It was impressive as hell for its time.

While I do enjoy "Inception" (2010), I'd have to put "The Matrix" way above it. I can watch it many times over and still be entertained to this day.

Matrix is one of the best movies ever made. Not only features it great action, but it also has so many hidden philosophy I notice something new everytime i rewatch it.
Inception is nice, but forgettable.

“The Matrix” is better for me. Not by a huge margin anymore but yeah.

“Inception” is bigger/grand in scale, magnificently well-made, carries more emotional weight to it, and it’s probably equally cool. Nevertheless, the direction, style, story, cinematography, groundbreaking action sequences, and iconic performances in “The Matrix” leave a bigger impression on me than Nolan’s film.

All that said, in terms of themes+ideas and maybe musical score, sometimes “Inception” appeals slightly more to me these days (I also probably love the anti-gravity hallway sequence as much as all the action in the ‘99 film).

reply

Matrix, more memorable, interesting and less pretentious. Inception kicks ass too, although the concept of entering one's dreams is not my cup of tea. I would have preferred Inception without the dream layers.

reply

Then it would not have been Inception. Stick with what you like.

reply

The fact that I watched it doesn’t mean that I'm stuck with it, 3 layers of dreams are just too much

While I thought Inception was really good, The Matrix was far better in my opinion. Both films are well acted, but The Matrix had amazing camera work and action scenes for its time, coupled with a stellar concept and story. I would go as far as to say that The Matrix is iconic while Inception is not. In my opinion, the Matrix is one of the best sci-fi films ever made while Inception is a solid 8/10.
