How did they get from the first dream level back into the airplane?

After the van crashes into the river and they're all sitting around the riversite, how did they get back into reality? They had a week down there did they just sit and wait it out? Or did the flight attendant provide them with a kick of some sorts?

Apparently Nolan had this idea worked out where they signal the flight attendant using blinks to wake them up.

However, he decided that it drew out the ending longer, so he did not include it. With that in mind, they had a week to blow in the city having a good time. Hope they enjoyed it.
