How much promotion did this movie get?

I just recently HEARD about this movie and the people I asked about it, never heard of it either or heard very little, or like me, just recently heard a little something about it in passing. So, my question is, how much of a marketing promotion did it get when it came out? If not much, that was its one failure, and while now, in researching it a bit I understand it has developed somewhat of a cult following, but it could have been so much more. Also, with all its star-power, I can't believe it was basically snubbed at the Oscars. To me, it is a gem. I cannot laud it enough.

I can't imagine it got any real promotion. I only heard of it because it was referenced in the show Rick and Morty. I'm so glad they did, because there's a very good chance I would've missed this gem otherwise

That's a huge pull, for a cartoon to reference Cloud Atlas.

It came out with one of the greatest movie trailers in history and I do remember some TV ads for it during primetime. It flopped for many reasons, its obscurity and inability to fully explain its story probably chief among them.

True! But that's it. It had pretty much no marketing.

It very much an independent film but still very expensive to make at about $100M. But it was also something of a big eff-you to the big Hollywood studios. They wanted nothing to do with it and it even get mentioned at any of the big award shows, certainly not the Oscars.

It won at some small ceremonies for things like the score and got nominations at others for costumes, one small win for editing (which it should have got an Oscar for).

Be sure to proof your posts to see if you any words out

practically none... the studio wasn't going to bet big money on an advertising campaign for a deep movie like this... people in general like junk
