werent some of the connections completely insignificant?

the guy who reads about Halle Berry's nuclear reactor conspiracy... did that really change to course of his life? I say no... he still escapes and makes a chronicle of his ordeal.
Would any changes to this chronicle and subsequent film adaption if he never read about the nuclear reactor change it to the point where Sonmi would not have helped with the revolution? I say no again

this film stretches for 3 hours to build some deep connection between these different lives that simply doesnt exist.

Read the book.

I'm reading the book right now, and I think the OP is right. Book Cavendish makes several references to the Luisa Rey manuscript, while the movie only has one single throwaway reference which I personally only caught on the second viewing.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the film and I'm loving the book, but for someone who's seeing the film first, the Rey-Cavendish connection is a bit of a headscratcher.

Yeah, it's been a couple of years since I read it. I think he reads it after his stroke (and amnesia, I think?) and it encourages him to get better or continue his escape. Lol I'm not much help. The details are foggy. I just remember that the connections were more apparent in the book, that's why I recommended it to OP.
