Most underrated movie of the 2010s

Honestly, this movie is a flawed masterpiece. It's so full of ambition and features incredible performances, perfect editing, a lush score, compelling and affecting action, comedy and drama, and astounding effects. It doesn't always hit its mark, but it's far closer to the first Matrix movie in terms of quality than some of the Wachowski siblings' other more recent (and genuinely misguided) efforts (i.e. Jupiter Ascending and Speed Racer). In fact, as brilliant as The Matrix is I'd argue that Cloud Atlas is the better overall film.

Hopefully it will get the praise it deserves over time.

I could see an extended cut being really, really good. And I kinda wish it followed the "Russian dolls" plot structure from the book.

It is hands down closer to The Matrix than any other Wachowski siblings film outside of V for Vendetta which I would say is at least close to on par with Cloud Atlas.

Well I'm looking at it rated at 7.5
That's pretty well-rated in my book.

In my mind, this film is FAR better than The Matrix.

They made their mark with the Matrix and it was something to watch ... then we got left in the dust with two subpar followups.

So as a complete story, The Matrix just doesn't match up to Cloud Atlas.

As for someone else's comment of a 7.5 rating being pretty good in their book, I believe it deserves much better. I personally rated it a 9/10, my highest score for any film (others are as high, but none higher).

I agree, the film is a masterpiece and in my opinion better than the Matrix, but I have no argument for someone who prefers the latter.

Cloud Atlas is like a whole universe in one film, an entire universe that's very connected. The more you study CA the more will find to connect.

For every intelligent film ever made there are people who rate the film without understanding it, thus a portion of the ratings are really unjust, therefore the more a film is intelligent the chances are that a larger portion of the ratings are somewhat invalid. In my humble opinion if we threw out all the ratings from people who did not understand the film the rating would be much higher. I remember the 2nd time I saw the film in the theater there was an older couple that was 'wtf?' early in the film and then left later on. I think that explains my thoughts pretty well.

The film is as close to a 10 as any. Every 10 has it's own characteristics that makes it a 10. Cloud Atlas is quite unique in that fashion.

I think what I'm most sad about is what I write now few will ever see.

Agreed. I think the test of time will show that this film is a classic.
