Best of Child Soldier/ Civil War films?

What do you think? Comparing my other favorites Tears of the Sun and Blood Diamond. I must admit they don't make many of this genre but when they do they are pretty good.

The narative from the perspective of the child in this war separates it from the rest. Idris Elba's performance is obviously nom worthy for many reasons. Also extremely impressive is the sound and sound efx editing in this firefights pretty dynamic.

There's "Johnny Mad Dog", wich some people say is the better version of "Beasts Of No Nation". But I don't, it's just another movie tackling the same subject and not shying away from the violence and all. It's well made, and also told from the kid's perspective.

Nothing else comes to mind. I mean, "Captain Phillips" has a similar vibe, because it deals with desperate Africans being exploited, but they are not children.

"City of God" deals with children in criminality, but the are not really soldiers, and not in Africa.

Yes thanks for Johnny Mad Dog forgot that one.

Interesting Captain Phillips I did think that one scene where the pirates board and the whole "I am captain" scene catching actor Hanks by surprise pales in comparison to Elba's scene with the soldiers where they are about to take the bridge. There are a lot of candid emotions in that scene one of my favorites.

"Come and See" which is a much better film in my opinion. An absolute masterpiece.

Watching this made me think of War Witch.

I nominate the first film I ever saw Idris Elba in: Sometimes In April about the Rwandan conflict. It came out right before Hotel Rwanda but it in my opinion was the best retelling of that conflict yet. Very violent. But a tearjerker.

It's a very strong film, indeed... It reminded me a lot of another film about a child soldier, a little girl. I think it's rather unknown but if you are interested in the subject, it's called "Feuerherz".
