why not as sussessful as Mad Max Fury Road?

Seems like a simular demographic.

While the same audience would surely enjoy both. The main problem is that Mad Max is a movie franchise spanning decades from the last century. Dredd only had one other movie for those who dont read comics so the character is not as established to mainstream audiences.

What Dredd needs is more movies, to build a franchise, the stories waiting to be told are endless if Dredd can just get his foot in the door. Never met anyone who hated it, mostly people who never saw it or heard of it which is the point. The pint being with only one movie before it the character was never established enough to survive in a movie over a decade later which is a reboot erasing the original. If someone would write a series of scripts that would be awesome, maybe then an exec would give Dredd the time of day he deserves.

*rewatching it, what it seems like its missing that due to slow pacing that works with the story is the music to carry it through. There is only music with the action parts, while in the down time sections its dead silent which is where music could have made a mediocre scene that much better as we all know. Conan and Mad Max for example had the same style with different pacing but music carried those moments, this movie lacks that one thing which may seem small but is a BIG thing... Imagine Conan with no music at all?

START THE REVOLUTION! SHRED THE GOVERNMENT! My favorite movie is V for Vendetta.

Hell it was in and out the theater so fast. I don't think anyone got a chance to watch it. Its almost like they made this movie knowing it wasn't going to be a hit.

Fury Road had:

Better marketing (and more prints)

Better known property

Bigger stars

Lower age rating in some areas

Those are probably the main factors, especially the marketing.

Dredd was marketed as pure bull *beep* 3D in my market. That was it, no descriptions of almost anything just a stupid screenshot followed by Dredd3D coming soon and then in theaters. Zero mention that most of the critics enjoyed it, no Dredd judging anyone, no action, no drama, no nothing just Dredd3D on a backdrop. I had zero interest in what I wrongly presumed to be another piece of *beep* 3D film made to jump on the 3D bandwagon having no real worth, then of course the internet tells me I missed out on a faithful adaptation so rather than dick around with a rental I just buy it on Blu-Ray on release and realize that this movie feels like it was made just for me. And I had no idea, because Dredd3D. The marketing department can eat a giant dick.

Mad Max I went and saw in theaters specifically because of a review, a film made for the enjoyment of men and it won't apologize for it. That coupled with as much as I like Karl Urban, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron are bigger names to most people. Also I saw previews for Mad Max months before it premiered. Dredd3D was annoying my tv about two weeks before it's release maybe.

Garbage marketing was what I was ranting about. Dredd suffered for it.

Seemed to be a big draw for women; seen as the one of the two central characters is a woman.

It was barely advertised, at least where I was.
