What A Weird Movie

I watched this movie with my friend today because she wanted to see it (again) because she watched it before, but I never had. I read the story a few years ago in my AP English class and hated it. I remember thinking it was pretentious and had a very convoluted plot. After seeing the film, I may have warmed up to it just a tad bit. I disagree with some people, I thought everyone was cast excellently. I thought the movie actually stayed pretty loyal to the book. At least from what I remember because I only read the book once.

The only reason I can think that the director chose to include the rap music was to show that the roaring 20s would have listened and partied in a way that seemed very modern to them, just as the way it seems modern to us now (although I wouldn't necessarily say all the songs were the most mainstream that a lot of people would be dancing and singing to.) Baz L. has such a crazy directing style, but it works for me.

I have never seen this or heard it

It's a "classic" apparently.

Agreed. I liked this adaptation better than the actual book. Made the Jazz Age feel more alive.

I liked the movie overall, even though I consider it to be flawed, and suffering from miscasting.

I think it captured as much of the book as is possible to capture on film.
