This Book will need a TV adaption rather then Film one to get it right, but 2013 did a decent Job
I always feel even now that The Great Gatsby would make a great 10 part one season TV show to really get the greatness out of this wonderful book,a bit like E.L Doctorow Ragtime book. I just can't imagine most TV companies putting the money behind either one sadly but I could be wrong. Jack Clayton 1974 and Baz Lunhrmann 2013 version both did respectable Job's on The Great Gatsby, but neither were great either. Lunhrmann's version probably get's the nod just for it's spectacle and cast alone.
I don't think it's the "Worst" film ever made or it's a bad film, that some threads on here have you believe. Some of the CGI is dodgy mind you, and some of the music choices are meh (I like the modern music in older style things, like TV Show Peaky Blinders but that show has more my taste of music, then the rap used in this). But you got top performance from Leo Di Caprio as Gatsby, and Toby Maguire was a good Nick Carraway. The Visuals are stunning and underrated Elizabeth Debicki never looked as stunning. At 2hrs 20 mins it flows really well. But I can understand Luhrmann's style of filmmaking wouldn't be too everyone's taste's but I agree with it's Imdb rating of 7.3. I still think we can get a Gatsby adaption that will please lovers of the book but I think it be a TV one rather then a film adaption.
