Underrated

Can someone tell why a lot of people don't like the movie? Just can't understand why. This movie was good, really good.

I thought so too.

I suspect that some people really dislike it for one or two reasons -
1) That they feel it is not faithful enough to the book.
or
2) They dislike or disagree with Baz Luhmann's aesthetic, which is wild, theatrical, colourful and opulent, and waves a middle finger at realism.

I mention number 2 because even though some of his earlier moves have plenty of fans, they also have plenty of haters because some people found them emotionally overblown, not historically sensible, visually riotous, which only goes to show that they've missed the point on his films.

Or, more likely, because it's just a genuinely awful movie in every respect.

But you know that, hence your insecure whining about "haters".

Troll or not he is right that this is a terrible movie. I generally like Leonardo DiCaprio movies but this is by far his worst.

These are good points.

I too thought upon first watch that it strayed too far from the book. However, if you watch the extras on the Blu-ray disk you Baz goes into detail as to how he choose to film what he filmed. He talks how if he had filmed the full book it would have been 7 hrs, and then discusses how he tried to honor the words and intent of the novel.

Upon a second watch I realize he actually lifts large parts of the dialog straight from the text of the book. Especially in the 3rd act. Some parts are left out, but what he did include is very faithful to the novel.

I thought it a great film, and a masterful piece of art. The costuming is amazing. While he does have his style, which is big and strong, it is done extremely well. If you don't like his style you may be turned away from liking the film.

I suggest everyone give it a second viewing. And get the DVD with the extras. The extras are fascinating and very give a detailed look into the making of the movie.

Because it's garbage. Hack director, worst actor who ever lived and Fitzgerald's terrible novel as source.

No, this movie was vastly overrated and then quickly forgotten.

Lol I love how you're responding to every single one of his posts. Keep up the good work

I like DiCaprio but Maguire is just Mr. Mediocrity.

Many more people love it than hater it.
It's just that the haters are more vocal
