Can someone explain why did Daisy torn the letter and Tom's necklace?
I missed the part where Nick asking what was in the letter, could someone explain that scene?

shareBefore Gatsby went off to war, he met Daisy in his uniform which kept her from knowing that he was poor. After he went off to fight, she never heard from him again and thought he was dead so moved on to Tom. Right before the wedding, Daisy gets a letter from Gatsby where he revealed that he was poor. Despite this, she realized how much she still loved him and was flew into a rage over the fact that she almost made the mistake of marrying Tom (hence the part where she breaks the necklace). It's pretty much clear in that scene that Daisy's life was like Rose's in Titanic. Her mother wanted her to marry a man she didn't really love and in the end she went through with it anyway. That's basically why they shown Daisy "cooling off" in the bathtub with her mom and Jordan fixing Tom's necklace and then all of them taking wedding pictures together in the next scene.
sharemake sense. Thanks
shareI got it totally differently, but it was 2 am. I thought the letter was from Daisy to Gatsby saying that she didn't want to live penniless. Would a guy in his situation use the word penniless? Sure he may tell her has nothing or no money but "I'm penniless?" He saved all of her letters and it's tough to catch at the end. The words float in the air. He bought everything and built everything for a woman who wouldn't marry a guy with no money. He was obsessed with her and lived right across the lake. Like "OK lady. I have more than you could ever ask for."
