Does the plot of this movie remind anyone of the game RE4? There are many similarities, including the plot being held in a secluded, backwards European village, a mysterious cult, some kind of possession effecting the villagers, etc.

I totally picked up on this. There was one handsome villager in a pirate shirt that looked like Luis, and when the villager went to give Sara the chloroform, she had a brief vision where he looked like Nemesis. (Yeah, I know Nemesis is RE3, not 4, but overall the "creature visions" were reminiscent of Umbrella mutations) When they encountered the statue in the fog, I thought they were going to have to put gems in its eye sockets to get a key or something.
"The Shrine" is a better Resident Evil movie than any of the actual Resident Evil movies.

Yeah, but it's probably more about them having similar "source material" (B-horror movies, Dagon), although I wouldn't discredit the RE4 influence either.
shareI didn't really think about that, but you're totally right. Especially early in the game when you're first getting that foreboding feeling from the surroundings.
