Why after Carmen and Sarah...(spoilers)

...started becoming demons did they start seeing the other villagers with creepy, demon-like faces? Is it that all demons see human beings in that way?

reply

Good question, it would definitely be an interesting concept if the case. Maybe they see them as what they are about to become.

Spoilers!

someone else suggested that because they were possessed themselves they saw "normal" people as monsters. ??

I was thinking it was part of the process of what they were becoming. Scaring them away from people to isolate them from anyone who might save them.

"You and me are goin' on a car-ride to hell... and you're riding shotgun! "

I think it was a symptom of possession. Seeing everyone around you as a monster will make you scared and thus run away from any and all potential help that is around you. Which in turn makes the demonic possession all the more easier to happen. A halucination if you will that works in favour of the demon in question.

The end.

"Fear is the key - to what you want to be."

Also if you see a monster and you think you could attack it (which is still stupid but its a horror movie and it has humans in it) then you would be attacking a real person. Just like the zombies in L4D apparently see people as monsters according to the comic.

I think it was because the villagers are the ones protecting the fog and dispatching anyone that sees the statue, trying to keep the victim away from the priests so they don't get a date with the mask and the thing in the statue can possess them fully by convincing them the villagers are evil demons with hallucinations.
