This is one of my favorite horror movies
First of all, it's more like a book or like an anime than a horror movie. It seems like there's so much lying underneath with the main characters, the village, the story behind the shrine, that could be artfully drawn out while keeping the story intact and maintaining its riveting nature, but the filmmakers chose to keep it short, bittersweet, and simple--and I appreciate that it's so abrupt and sparse.
Second of all, it does so much with a small budget. I was genuinely terrified the whole time and could not have predicted the ending. This movie on a big budget wouldn't have been the same.
I don't know. I think if you're an avid fan of horror, this is a nice little gem.
