Anything in this movie has a real religious connection?

It seems that some people are making comments and complaints about this movie as if it was really some Christian movie... does this movie have any real religious connection? Such as about curses and such? I didn't really see the movie as a religious movie...just another horror film...

reply

I ddin't think this had anything to do with any religion or a religious connection. I just thought it was a fun horror movie ... that did a good job of creeping me out.

Well the Christian sect is made up of xenophobic fundie nutjobs in this move, and most Christian sects in reality are xenophobic fundie nutjobs, so that is a connection I suppose.

Sorry to say it to all the anti-Christian folks, but ALOT of horror movies are based around religion and it will probably always be that way. Some of the BEST horror movies, like The Omen, The Exorcist, Wickerman, Rosemary's Baby...too many to list...play towards Christian fears. Get over it. All the ignorant religious bashing is just that...ignorant and just makes people come off like douchebags (should probably learn a thing or two about humility too, but that's neither here nor there.)

This movie had that "cult" aspect to it for the majority of the movie but I wouldn't necessarily consider it "Christian". People like to distort the Christian religion, pick out the parts that suit them best, whether they believe in it or not. My suggestion is to not take things so seriously and not get your panties in such a bunch over religion. There will always be fighting over it, just like there will always be fighting over everything else that is important to the people fighting over it. When you see these themes in horror movies, just keep it in your mind that a large part of the world population is still Christian, whether you like it or not (estimated 1 in 3 people; another 1 in 3 are Muslim).

reply

Actually, the Christians in this movie were protecting the world against possession. Perhaps the plot was too complex for you. Also, you're showing far more hatred and bigotry than the Christians I know. Hypocrisy.

The cross is absolutely a Christian symbol. While previously, it may not have been, when Christ was crucified, it became a symbol of his sacrifice. While December 25th may or may have not been the birth of Christ, what we're celebrating is his birth. It's the meaning that matters. I'm fairly sure that despite the circle in the cross, the priests in this movie represent Christian priests as they were protecting the world against an apparently demonic force being generated from the statue. Modern Christianity is interlaced in nothing other than itself as long as you understand that you're celebrating Christ's birth and resurrection. If you follow the New Testament, you can do no wrong.

I beg to differ. The Bible details more than 1 occasion where people observed Pagan customs, in God's name, and this still angered God. Read Jeremiah chapter 20. This is God expressing his anger at the Pagan celebration we now call Easter. Every last detail of Easter, from the rabbits & eggs to sunrise services... all Pagan. Matter of fact, the word "Easter", is the name of a Pagan goddess. Look up Semiramis and Tammuz.

December 25th is actually the Greek festival of Saturnalia; a celebration of the death of the "sun god" Tammuz.

God calls Pagans heathens. If you think it's OK to observe heathen customs and traditions in honor of the Most High... well, I can't judge you for it, but the scripture is very clear. As believers (at least I assume you are), we are commanded to be set apart from the world. We are a "peculiar people". I don't care if every man alive keeps the traditions of their fathers simply because they were taught to. I'd rather be the one crazy guy in the world keeping God's word.

Regarding the cross, if you can find ANY scripture authorizing its use in worship, I'll hang one up in my living room. There's also that pesky 2nd commandment:

"You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them."

I'm staying away from carved images.... even if it's a cross. I don't need a piece of wood to be a "symbol" for my Lord, when I have his Holy Spirit within me, and can call upon him any time, any place.

These are things I have been researching in depth for quite some time. I sincerely urge you to look into these Pagan customs that have been interjected into our religion over the centuries, and not by mistake. Lucifer is still tempting and corrupting us to this very day, and Paul warned us not to be ignorant of his devices. Research Mystery Babylon and how this spirit has been moving in this world since ancient Babylon.

Read Matthew 7:22-23. I never truly understood why Jesus would turn away people who had even prophesied, cast out devils, and worked wonders in his name, until I started looking into this Pagan disease infesting our churches. Makes sense now. He's going to be turning away Pagans who always thought they were serving him. These verses make it very clear that we may not be forgiven for our ignorance.

I'm going to wrap this up here, because I'll end up writing a book here if I don't.. but please, look into these things brother.

I don't worship the cross, but what it symbolizes. On December 25th, i'm not celebrating Pagan customs, I'm celebrating the birth of Christ. Jeremiah was of the Old Testament written in law. The New Testament was written on the heaer. It was taught in the Bible it was ok to eat meat sacrificed to idols if your conscience was alright with it.

Nicely explained my Brother... 

What the person replying to you isn't seeing is the ACTUAL things and celebrations that he is going along with. Granted, that is his total Free Will choice to do so. Who are WE to judge that. However, Truth is Truth. But, his constantly going back to, 'I'm not [doing this or doing that]' is completely irrelevant. As you clearly explained from Scripture, what matters is what God thinks of it. And, as you said, there is ample evidence in the Bible to show God's clear view of ANYTHING Pagan intermixed with True Christianity.

Now, I am NOT personally judging or stating that this person is 'Wrong'. I am merely agreeing with your clear explanation of what THE BIBLE itself DOES say. If people wish to do otherwise or choose to interpret things differently, then that is their right and their own choice.

But, as with most things, the Truth is the Truth...

1. Historically, Jesus was born closer to September / October while '... the shepherds were outdoors sleeping with their sheep' Not in december when the weather would be far too cold.

2. Christmas, no matter HOW much people may personally feel otherwise, can easily and historically be shown to originate with the Pagan Roman Sun worship celebrating the rebirth of the sun when the days started getting longer (Dec. 21st)

3. The 'Tree', 'Gift-Giving', 'Lights' all are from non-Christian origins.

4. Easter is indeed from Astarte (look it up) and historically is clearly from the Spring celebrations of rebirth, fertility, of which both eggs and bunnies are symbols.

5. Constantine himself 'Christianized' these celebrations and others to coincide with Pagan celebrations already celebrated by the people, specifically to bring them comfortably into the new 'Christian' religion and unify them.

Why do you think that most newspapers (well, when we actually USED to have newspapers) print articles almost EVERY year clearly stating the historical non-Christian origins of these holidays, particularly Christmas.

It only takes the absolute SIMPLEST research to find these things out...

I now have over 6700 films; many of them very rare and OOP. I LOVE to trade. PLEASE ASK! 

These people seem to have been an extremist christians. The old testament asks for a human sacrifice in couple places, something not many christians will tell you. i guess those locals just took it a bit too deeply.

Heres 3 for you:

Exodus 22:29-30

You must give me the firstborn of your sons. Do the same with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but give them to me on the eighth day.

Joshua 6:21

They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it - men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

Genesis 22:2

Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

I'm guessing you missed the part of the film where it revealed they were the good guys and if they didn't do the thing with the mask and the nails through the eyes that the person would turn into a mass murdering demon? I'm struggling to see that as a sacrifices made to god and a bad thing that somehow casts a relevant light on real life rather than as the (fictional) film establishes killing the host so the demon didn't get loose and horribly murder everyone unfortunate enough to meet it?

Many ignorant, politically fueled anti Christians whine about anything remotely dealing with Theological themes. Just have to ignore their hatred and bigotry.

demon possession is always a Christian thing.
Plus the towns folk robe guys are reading bible
passages to the demon/girl. so ya, it is 100 percent religious
and christian, in that aspect.

There are demons in other theologies, so possession is not just a christian thing.

The cross with a circle is mostly just a celtic thing, so it was weird to see that in this supposedly polish town.

Ya, that was kind of a stupid thing to say, maybe I was half asleep, lol

Yes, that cross was a cross of the sun, which originated in Ireland,
but this kind of cross is common to see in continental Europe as well,
Spain, France, even Latvia(which is west of Poland).
Anyway, regardless of all that, I do believe that this
was intended to be a christian type of religion such as Mennonites
which are certainly in Poland and dress and live very much like
the townsfolk in this movie
