the Statue
Remind anyone else of the Pazuzu Statue from The Exorcist?
I just saw this movie and I loved it.

am i the only one being reminded of the terror dogs from ghostbusters? ;)
shareYes, when the statue is revealed in the mist, I immediately thought of the Pazuzu statue when it's shown towards the end the Exorcist in Regan's bedroom with a flash of lightning.
Imagine having a duplicate of that statue in front of your house. Maybe it would scare away the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Lol, I'll have to try that..
share@ the guy who said just put a tarp on the statue.
Does not work. To put a tarp means villager or villagers will have to go up to the statue and erect the tarp. Pretty challenging to do without coordination by "just not looking at it."
Maybe instead of going up to it to cover it up, they just heavily fogged out the area so as to conceal it.
The statue was certainly the most unnerving part of the whole film (unless you have a weak stomach, in which case the first girl being sacrificed would take that spot) and the resemblance to the fetish from The Exorcist is certainly hard to miss. I was pleasantly surprised with how they used it in the film, though. Like others here I was expecting it to come to life, but their variation on the classic trope of an inanimate object moving only a little bit was brilliant. This film company is showing a lot of potential, let's hope they keep getting better.

Concurred. Statue definitely reminded of Paz from Exorcist. Though this one looked a little cartoonish, however, they kind of made it unnerving with the atmosphere deafening silence.
All in all, good movie. Thank goodness guy lived for once!
Does not work.
The statue scene was my favorite part of this movie by far. So tense and creepy. Reminded me why I love horror. Reminded me of the "hedge animal scene" when I first read The Shining as a kid (was reading it in school, in broad daylight, others around, and still got goosebumps). Creepiest scene in a horror film in some time.
So while I see a lot of people saying the first half was slow and they preferred the second half, I'd disagree and say the first half was better. Then again, I've always preferred atmospheric creepiness and dread over full scale, all out sensory assault horror a la Evil Dead. I think I'm the only horror fan (or at least only non-troll one) that will admit to not caring for that movie. Makes me feel weird to be a misfit like that, but oh well :-/ lol So yeah, the end was a bit too Evil Dead for my taste. So I'm not sure I liked this enough to buy it (just watched last night), but if the whole movie had been as good as that statue scene, I definitely would.
Haven't watched The Exorcist in years, definitely want to now so I can get your reference. I've only watched it once properly/on video and I remember the creepiest part happening at the beginning, so maybe that was the statue thing.
Also thought the masks were creepy - wish there'd been more of a story behind them. That scene where they uncover the crypt with all the corpses of the masked "sacrifices" (or so we're led to believe) was the 2nd creepiest scene. At first I thought maybe the masks would turn the people into creatures or steal their souls or something. Which I guess might have been cliche, but yeah, I wish the masks had had more of a story behind them. They just looked so unique and badass.
"Its only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything."
Masks like those were used of Fatal Frame, they were called Blinding Masks. There was a cutscene where a priest is putting one on a girl, which was very hard to watch.
shareI actually thought the statue reminded me of the demon from that 1981 movie The Incubus.
shareI totally thought about Pazuzu!!
shareCall me crazy...but I actually have a hard time remembering the statue from The Exorcist! This one...not so much! That statue in The Shrine was CREEPY!!!!
