Oscar nom for Paul Rudd?
I freakin hope so.
He looks awesome
Deadline Hollywood wrote the following in their Oscar contenders piece.
HOW DO YOU KNOW? (Sony Pictures - 12/17) Writer/Director James Brooks delivers this relationship comedy with an all-star cast, including Reese Witherspoon, Jack Nicholson, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson. Oscar Chance: Despite Oscar winners Witherspoon's and Nicholson’s presence, I am told Paul Rudd is the standout here. Best chance for the movie is likely at the Globes where it may duke it out with The Kids Are All Right and Love And Other Drugs for Best Picture Comedy or Musical.

That's the first comment I've read about the performances and that's good news for Rudd.
Are you people high?
shareI love Paul Rudd, but this movie is too much of a comedy to be recognized by the academy. I definately think he could be a contender at the Globes.
shareSome more positive buzz for Rudd. Keep in mind Karger hasn't seen the film though.
5. How Do You Know? Here’s the one case where I’m apparently the most alone in my thinking, as no other participant has the film on his or her list. But I have faith in the upcoming Reese Witherspoon romantic company based on writer/director James L. Brooks’ selected track record (Broadcast News, Terms of Endearment) and the positive buzz I’ve been hearing about costar Paul Rudd’s performance. Here’s hoping it’s not another Spanglish.

I can't imagine a romantic comedy ever winning an Oscar.
shareYou've got to be kidding.
As early as 1934, "It Happened One Night" won five Oscars - Best Leading Actor for Clark Gable, Best Leading Actress for Claudette Colbert, Best Director for Frank Capra, Best Picture and Best Writing Adaptation.
And there have been plenty since.
I just mean in the last 10 years, the rage seems to be the Slumdog Millionaire type indie films, not what has traditionally been light entertainment. I really don't care if a romcom wins an oscar or not, it just doesn't seem likely with what has been nominated in the last 10 years.
shareJames L. Brooks did As Good As It Gets...They are the same genre. Nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture and screenplay, winning 2: Actor Jack and actress Helen Hunt.
It def has a chance for some awards and I hope it does. It looks like its going to be a really good movie.
James L Brooks has done 3 comedies that have been nominated for best picture and gotten a few actors noms and wins, Broadcast News, As Good As It Gets, and Terms of Endearment so I'm sure it'll get some nods just because his name is attached but I don't know about Rudd.
