Maybe I dozed off for a bit during this overlong, mostly boring movie, but I snapped out of it when the guy with the Lenin mask started leading everyone in the Russian National Anthem, and they all joined in. I wondered, what the hell is that all about?

Can anyone give me a hint, perhaps a cohesive answer?

It was a combination of mockery and paying homage to a wartime adversary.

Fun fact - the author of novel, John Le Carre - a former MI6 guy, was in that scene!
