A poll out of curiosity.

Since this movie seems to be quite divisive as far as opinions on it go, I thought a poll might be in order:

How funny, or not, did you think this movie was when you watched it, and were you drunk/stoned/sober at the time?

reply

Nail-bitingly sober, and I laughed my ass off. Now, had this been some low-budget affair with a cast of unknowns, I might not have found it as amusing; a solid part of the humor comes from the juxtaposition of extraordinarily talented actors telling a bunch of poop jokes. There is a certain release and relief in having people who are on a certain tier of intellectual dramatic arts "slum" into the lowbrow humor of the vulgate.

This movie is a boldfaced cannonball into the pool of boorish and vulgar humor, and there's nothing wrong with that.

reply

Same here. Completely sober and laughed so hard it hurt. And I knew nothing about this movie going in, not even the genre.

reply

Agree with this 100%. Totally sober and I've never laughed so hard at a movie before. And a large part of it wasn't the jokes but the people delivering them.

I was hooked instantly. One of my favorite movies ever is The Prestige. Hugh Jackman is absolutely brilliant in that movie, struggling with the pain of loss and obsession with rivalry. And to see him with a ballsack on his chin and still able to deliver a solid performance had me rolling with laughter.

Lil baked. Watched a second time sober. Fkin hilarious! My guess is abunch of prudes tried to watch this movie and hated it. 4.4 is probably the greatest injustice on imdb. Its shock humor/slapstick. Kind of like naked gun meets american pie. Not quite as magoo as other slapsticks. 100x better than all the other crappy spoof movies now adays like epic movies and all those. Cast believe they got all theae alisters to do this raunchy stuff. Not for the squeamish or humorly challenged.

I just enjoyed it. I don't necessarily remember finding it 'funny', I just really liked it.
I also like the post from Katachthonios. I might have liked mars attacks as much without the stars. But it wouldn't have been the same.

reply

oh, and I was sober.

reply

Completely sober, maybe it would have been funny had I been blind drunk. It was so bad it was cringe-worthy. Nothing funny in it at all, not one single scene. And I like gross-out comedies, Something about Mary was hilarious, so was Dumb and Dumber, Animal House, Superbad, American Pie, Hangover, Wedding Crashers, all very funny movies. This? Boring, lame, there was absolutely nothing memorable about it. Terrible, Farrelly has lost his touch. Worst "comedy" since Freddy Got Fingered.

reply

It's odd, it's random and there are some great LOL moments. I liked it enough to watch it twice. Just found out today (having listened to Peter Farrelly on The Nerdist podcast) that the American version has a completely different framing device to the UK version that I saw... so might need to track that down.

So you didn't like it then?

reply

USA version is the best, saw that loved it, then ended up with the uk version for some reason terrible boring. Dennis made the film great, it was hilarious anyway, but so much better with him.

reply

Stone sober.

Overall I think it is a poor attempt to be funny by being trashy.

I enjoyed the first episode with Winslet and Jackman, it is a study in how one might react in an absurd and unexpected situation, when everyone else seems to think everything is normal. I watched that episode a couple of times.

I also thought the Superhero Speed dating was mostly inventive and funny.

But most of it is just crap, like the episode where Faris wanted her boyfriend to "poop" on her neck to show that he loved her. In what universe is that even remotely humorous?

Sorry you could not see deeper into it.

Now off you go and enjoy people being murdered or tortured in movies BTW THATS NOT REAL. But enjoy the murder anyway.

I was stone sober and I really enjoyed it. I only laughed out loud a few times, but I think part of the reason I liked it so much was I wanted to see what offensive thing they would do next and how far they would take it. I also looked forward to each new sketch to see which big name stars would be in it and what outrageous thing they would be doing. I mean, they had a scene with an oscar winning actress dipping her boob in guacamole.

I was actually bummed when it ended.

reply

Sober and I was just like meh, it's ok. It's essentially a sketch show. It really didn't do anything that you haven't already seen on something like South Park, so it was never really shocking even if it did succeed in making me uncomfortable once or twice. Some skits were better than others as you'd expect with this sort of thing and I think my favorite was the short and simple scene with Emma Stone and keiran Culkin. But yeah, it was a hit and miss sketch show, nothing more or less.

What if a squirrel wants a sausage?

I was sober. I read that it was a modern day version of The Kentucky Fried Movie, so I had to see it (I love TKFM). This movie made me laugh, but didn't even come remotely close to being as good as TKFM.
